Summary:

How many different ways can you tell the same story? Different characterizations, different circumstances, but all focused around the same basis. That is the challenge issued to any author that would like to participate in "The Retelling Challenge".

For the first go round these are the specifications...

Plot: A conversation between two lovers results in the murder of another person.

Requirements:The story must include at least (2) members of NSYNC but you decide how much (or little) each member is featured and who your leading character is.

Throughout the story there should be some distinct action/habit that the lead (male/female) seems to repeat. Utilize your foreshadowing skills!

***Special Gift to You: This story does not have to be completed to be submitted to the challenge. This form of story can take a while to write SO, the bare minimum is that I want you to be at least three chapters in (if you're doing a multi-chaptered piece) by the time your date comes around to post.***

Summary:

drabble is an extremely short work of fiction...the purpose of the drabble is brevity, testing the author's ability to express interesting and meaningful ideas in an extremely confined space.

I'm proposing an on-going drabble challenge. Short, SHORT stories, 100 to 1000 words, any genre, featuring any member that is an *NSYNCer. Crossovers okay, slash okay, AU A-OKAY. Anything goes, so long as the story is shorter than 1000 words and stars an *NSYNCer in a major role.

The purpose of this challenge is just to encourage writing on a regular basis, to expand our minds past the 86 chapter story, to revisit visuals and short snippets of work. We get better by writing and writing and writing (and reading, but that's beside the point. ;)

Pick a theme, a prompt, a lyric, a photo, and give your mind over to the pulses of fiction- the snapshot of a scene.

And have FUN!

Summary:

The Day the Music Died

No one can sing.  Instruments are silent.  Radios are static.  CDs are blank.  The music has died.  Music has mysteriously disappeared.  Anytime anyone tries to sing, only raspy whispers escape, even if seconds ago their speaking voice was booming.  Perfectly tuned instruments blow only hot air, drums make no sound, CDs that were once full are suddenly blank, all radio stations are broadcasting static, people in music videos are dancing to silence.  Even elevators are quiet.  Except for one girl who can still sing, and beautifully.  Any instrument she picks up sounds like heaven, only to become mute once in the hands of anyone else.  Suddenly, the fate of the musical world rests in her hands – and voice.  It is up to her to repopulate the world with music.  And who better to help her than the new King of Pop himself – Justin Timberlake.

Requirements:

  1. Can include all members of *NSYNC, but Justin must be the main male character.
  2. A heterosexual romance would be fantastic, but any genre is acceptable.  Or a combination of genres.
  3. I would like the rating to be NC-17 if the genre is romance, but if the writer is uncomfortable with this, any rating is appreciated.  Any rating is fine if the writer decides to pick a different genre.
  4. The female character must be appropriate.  For instance, a reasonable age range.  No fifteen- or eighty-year-old main characters, please.
  5. Female character must also be a nobody.  No other celebrities, unless in secondary or supporting characters.  Celebrities’ likenesses can be used.  For instance, a celebrity in the role of the fictional main character, should you choose to cast the story.  But not as themselves, except in the above stated exceptions.
  6. I would like to see the female lead be an original character.  I would prefer anyone who accepts this challenge not to use characters from their other stories or series.  If possible, I would also like the female character’s name to be of musical influence.  Lyric, Cadence, Melody, Medley, Harmony, Symphony, you get it.  Something pretty.  You don’t have to get crazy with it, and my suggestions are not a must.  If you can come up with something prettier or more exotic, have at it.
  7. I envisioned a title of “The Day the Music Died”, but feel free to fiddle with this if you can think of something better.
  8. Other than that, have fun!  I had a dream about this, and I’m not much of a writer myself, so I wouldn’t do it justice by trying to bring it to life.  Hopefully an experienced writer will accept, but I encourage anyone creative to attempt.  Any questions, comments, concerns, whatever – feel free to contact me at marek_love@hotmail.com.
