Chapter 1: Temptation

She could hear the thumping strains of music and the loud noise of the slot machines as she entered the dark,
smoky room. She blinked her eyes a few times to adjust them to the dark interior of the room. Looking over to her companion, she
gave a slight nod.

“Are you sure we’re at the right place?” David asked.

Sarah nodded her head. “This is where I was told I’d find him at.” She replied. She turned her gaze back to the
room that lay before her. As she scanned the room quickly, she saw him sitting up at the front of the room. "Bingo.” She said.
“It’s time to make our grand entrance, David.” She smiled a wicked smile as she added, “He’ll never know what hit him.”

As David led her into the room, Sarah went over her plan in her mind. Ever since she had heard from J.C.’s friend
that he had been out schmoozing with another woman, she had been formulating the plan in her mind. As far as she was concerned,
it was time for a little payback. They had only been dating for a couple of weeks, and she didn’t think there was anything going
wrong in their relationship to warrant his stepping out on her.

Sarah had made sure that the dress she was wearing would knock his eyes out. She adjusted the straps on her black velour
halter dress. It had a small section in the middle made of lace and the hem of the dress just brushed her knees with its small
slit in the front. It was a beautiful, yet sexy dress, and from the looks she was receiving walking to the front of the room, she
knew she had been correct in selecting it. She pushed a loose piece of her light brown hair behind her ear, briefly brushing against
her black beaded earring. After combining the dress with the earrings, black strap pumps, and her amber necklace, she knew that
she was ready to get down to business.

She looked back over at David. He was looking especially handsome tonight. Wearing a dark blue long-sleeved shirt
with black pants, he cut a handsome figure. As if he could feel her looking at him, he looked up at her. The light was glinting
off of his glasses, making it hard for her to see his eyes clearly, but she could see enough of his green eyes to make her smile.
“Thanks for coming with me, David. I really appreciate it.”

“It’s no problem. I’m enjoying myself. It’s not every day I can help a friend get back at her boyfriend.”
He fell silent for a moment. "You know if circumstances had been different, if you weren’t dating him, then I would want to be the
one in his place. I’ve had feelings for you for awhile, and I admit, I was jealous of him when you started dating. But I can tell
that you love him, so I’m going to make sure he never does this to you again.”

Sarah looked at David astonished. “I had no idea you felt like that.” She replied. “I’ve always liked you, David,
as a friend. But who knows what might have happened if J.C. hadn’t entered the picture.” She smiled warmly at him. “Let’s go in
there and show J.C. a thing or two!”

David led her to a table not far from where J.C. and his date sat. “Thank you.” Sarah replied as David held her
chair out for her. She placed her black beaded bag on the table. “Anything so far?” She asked David.

David looked over to the next table. "He’s not seen us yet.” He replied. “He’s out with her?” David said
incredulously. “He stepped out on you with that? She’s not half the woman you are.”

Sarah placed her hand on David’s. “Thanks, David. It means so much to hear that from you. I don’t know why he’s
suddenly decided to date some cheap looking woman. I didn’t think there was anything wrong with our relationship.” She stopped
suddenly, looking over at the next table. “But I guess I was wrong.”

“Don’t think that, Sarah.” David replied. “It’s not you, it’s his problem. You know the saying, ‘You don’t know
what you’ve got ‘til it’s gone’? He’d better heed it before he gets burned.”

“Don’t look now, but we’ve been spotted.” Sarah said. She smiled wickedly. “Let’s give him something to look at,
shall we?” Sarah leaned in closer to David. She rubbed her hand over his and then let it trail slowly up his arm. Sarah could
feel the heat of J.C.’s stare as she reached up and gently rubbed David’s face. “Can you see what he’s doing?” Sarah whispered to
David.

David glanced at J.C. out of the corner of his eye. “If looks could kill, I’d be slumped over on the table by now.”
He replied. He chuckled softly. "Serves him right, if you ask me.”

Just then a waitress came over to their table, blocking them from J.C.’s view. “What can I get you this evening?”
She asked.

"I’ll have a glass of Diet Coke please.” Sarah replied. “David, what do you want?”

“I’ll have a Vodka Collins please.” He replied. The waitress wrote down their orders and went to go fill their
drinks.

Chapter 2: What Is She Doing With Him?

J.C. glanced over at his dining companion. He was fervently beginning to wish that she would shut up, since she
had been talking non-stop for 10 minutes. He wouldn’t have minded it so much, if she talked about things other than herself. How
could a person talk about only themselves for 10 minutes? He would nod at the appropriate moments, so as not to seem that he was
being rude. He started to regret even agreeing to see Tanya. It was starting to seem like a big mistake. And what if Sarah
found out? He absently wondered if she would even care, since she seemed to talk of nothing else but work and her co-worker David.

He wouldn’t admit it to Sarah, but he was jealous of David. From the way that Sarah talked, a person would think
that she liked him as more than a friend. Part of him hoped that she would find out, and then maybe she’d be the one to feel
jealous for a change.

"J.C., are you listening to me?" Tanya asked, somewhat irritably.

"Yeah, I’m listening." J.C. replied. "I just zoned out a minute. What did you just say?"

"I said", Tanya replied, "isn’t that your girlfriend over there? She’s got good taste. The guy she’s with is
gorgeous!"

J.C. turned in the direction that Tanya was looking. Sure enough there was Sarah walking in with some guy. He
noticed that as she walked in, that every guy in the place was looking at her. Where did she get that dress? Man she looks
beautiful tonight. Who the hell is she with?
He watched them sit down at the table next to them. His anger and jealousy
grew as Sarah leaned over to her mystery guy and rubbed her hand up his arm. She then placed her hand against his face. J.C.
narrowed his dark blue eyes as he glared over at the next table. What in the hell was Sarah doing?

He wasn’t trying to eavesdrop on their conversation, but when he heard her say, ‘David what do you want’, it felt
like an icy hand gripped his heart. So that’s whom she was with. The ever wonderful, ever perfect David. I guess what we
have wasn’t enough for her.
He quickly turned his head away before Sarah could see him.

"I was right, wasn’t I" Tanya asked quietly.

"Yeah." J.C. replied. "I wish you weren’t, but you are." He sighed heavily and ran his hands through his hair.
He looked back over at Sarah’s table and noticed that the waitress had brought them their drinks. He looked longingly at Sarah,
and he wished it were he with her tonight. He saw how the light glinted off of her light brown hair, and he had to fight the urge
to run his hands through it.

"Are you ready, David?" Sarah asked, placing her glass on the table. "I think our work is done here."

"I’m ready." David replied. "The question is, what’s going to happen later on. I mean, how’s he going to take
this?"

"I’ll handle that." Sarah told him. "Don’t worry about it." She motioned for the waitress to come over.

"Ready for your bill?" Their waitress asked.

Sarah nodded. She opened her purse and took some money out. "Keep the change." She replied as she included a tip
with the bill.

"Thank you!" The waitress replied. "Have a good night you two."

"Oh we will." Sarah replied. She smiled at David. "We certainly will."

Sarah got up from her chair and grabbed her purse. "Let’s go, David." David reached over and placed his arm
around her waist. Sarah made sure that as they made their way past J.C.’s table that she didn’t look his way.

J.C. decided that he’d had enough. He slammed his glass down onto the table and got up from his chair. He
glanced over at Tanya and noted her bemused expression.

"I guess this means that the date is over." Tanya said. "Don’t worry about the bill, I’ll get it." She motioned
toward the exit where Sarah and David had left a few minutes ago. "Go after her and see if you can salvage your relationship. A
relationship like yours shouldn’t be wasted."

J.C. walked over to Tanya and placed a kiss on her cheek. "Thank you, Tanya, for understanding. Don’t worry, I’m
going to take your advice."

He all but ran out of the room, trying to catch up with them. He got there just as the elevator door closed.
"Dammit!" He muttered to himself. He walked over to the front desk; maybe he could get some answers there.

The desk clerk looked up as J.C. approached the front desk. "How may I help you sir?" He asked.

"I’m looking for my girlfriend. She should be checked into one of your rooms. Her name is Sarah Ramsey."

The desk clerk typed the name into the computer. He looked at the screen a few minutes and then said, "Here we go.
She’s in Room 200."

"Thank you." J.C. replied. He walked to the elevator and pressed the 3rd floor button. He grew nervous as the
floor numbers lit up. Finally, the doors opened onto the 3rd floor. He walked out and started looking for Sarah’s room number. He
looked up at the door in front of him. There it was, Room 200. J.C. gained control of his emotions and raised his hand to knock
on the door.

Chapter 3: Forgiveness

Sarah put her key into the lock and unlocked her hotel room door. What a night, she thought to herself.
Seeing J.C. with that woman had done nothing for her mood. Although she felt a bit guilty having done what she did, she knew that
she had to teach J.C. a little lesson. But what happens now? What will J.C. say when I see him again? Sarah sighed
tiredly. Guess I'll know tomorrow. She walked over to the bed where her suitcase sat, and pulled out her underclothes
and her pajamas. She ignored the clothes that she had strewn on the bed, telling herself that she'd put them back in the
suitcase when she was finished with her bath.

Sarah deposited her clothes in the bathroom and then went and got her portable radio. A little music will help
my mood
, she thought. She turned the radio on and soon soft music was coming out of the speakers. "Much better." Sarah
said aloud. She placed the radio on the dresser and raised the volume enough where she could hear it in the bathroom. She walked
back into the bathroom and started to prepare her bath. Soon she had a nice bubble bath going in the tub. "This looks heavenly."
Sarah said to herself. "Maybe it will help me to relax a little." She removed her clothes and laid them to the side. As she
stepped into the tub, she felt the warm water lapping against her skin. Now this is more like it! She sank into the tub
and let the music and warm water soothe her soul.

J.C. knocked on Sarah's door. Not hearing a response, he tried again. Again there was silence. He reached for
the door handle and turned it. To his surprise it opened easily. Why in the world didn't Sarah lock her door? Maybe she was
waiting for David to come back to the room.
The thought made J.C.'s stomach turn. He and Sarah were going to have a talk,
and if David were in there, well he'd just have to leave. This was between Sarah and himself. He cautiously entered Sarah's hotel
room. Nothing unusual so far. He saw a suitcase lying on the bed with its contents heaped on the bed covers. He recognized it
as Sarah's. He didn't see another suitcase lying around, but that didn't mean that David might not be coming back here. He walked
further into the room and stopped as he heard soft music coming from the radio on the dresser. He turned and saw a light shining
from the bathroom.

He walked to the door and slowly pushed the door open further. Lying in the tub was Sarah, wreathed in a cloud of
bubbles. Her eyes were closed, and she had her hair pulled up into a ponytail. And J.C. wondered to himself if she were waiting
for David.

Sarah had drifted into a light slumber, relaxed by the music and the warm water. She felt a shadow looming over
her and she slowly opened her eyes. When she saw J.C. standing there in the doorway, she nearly jumped out of the tub. "J.C.?!
What in the hell are you doing?" She yelled. "Can't a girl have some privacy around here?"

J.C. had the grace to turn red as Sarah tried to cover herself. "Oh, so I suppose you're not waiting for David
then?" He retorted.

"What?" Sarah asked. "What in the hell makes you think that David would be up here?"

J.C.'s dark blue eyes narrowed. "Don't play games with me. I saw the little display that you put on in the bar.
Yeah, he's just a co-worker all right. I should have known something was up when you talked about him non-stop."

"Like you can talk, Mr. I'm-With-A-Dumb-Blonde!" Sarah shouted back. "How do you think that made me feel, finding
out from Chris that you were with some tart behind my back? I wasn't doing cartwheels about it, I'll tell you that!" She glared
at him. "And now, if you have any decency left, you'll let me finish my bath and let me get dressed in peace."

"Fine." J.C. growled. "But we are finishing this conversation when you're finished." He stalked back through the
doorway, slamming it shut on his way out.

“Fine!” Sarah shouted back. She sank back into the tub bristling with anger. Just who in the hell did he think
he was? Don’t worry, J.C., you’re going to get an earful all right! Just wait until I’m finished with you!
She hurriedly
finished her bath and completed getting ready. She pulled on her pajamas and then walked over and picked up her discarded clothing.

Sarah opened the bathroom door and silently walked over to the bed, pointedly ignoring J.C. She laid her clothes
on the bed and slowly began folding them so she could put them in her suitcase. Having done that, Sarah placed her suitcase on the
floor, she then placed her dress into its bag and zipped it up. She walked over to the closet and hung her dress on the door.

“Are you going to talk to me or are you just going to ignore me?” J.C. asked, breaking the awkward silence. “When
I said we were going to finish this conversation, I meant it.”

“What conversation?” Sarah asked sarcastically. “All you did was come charging in here like a bull in a china
shop and start accusing me of something I didn’t do. For your information, I do only like David as a friend. The ironic thing is,
he’s jealous of you! The only reason he agreed to my plan was because he hated to see me being hurt by you. And before
you ask, we have separate rooms. Any more questions?”

“Did it ever occur to you that I might be jealous of David?” J.C asked quietly. He noticed Sarah’s shocked
expression. “Yes I’m jealous. I mean who could blame me? All you do is talk about him. I’m surprised that you even know that I still
exist!” He paused for a moment before continuing. “If it’s not David you’re talking about, it’s your job. It’s like you don’t
even care about what kind of day I’m having! A guy can only take so much you know.”

Sarah looked at J.C. silently. “I thought you wanted a woman who was independent and who did her own thing, J.C.
I do just that. I’m sorry if I’m excited about what I do, or that I have a great co-worker that I work with. I’m fortunate
enough to have a job that I like and a co-worker that I get along with. You know, I could say the same about your job, but I
don’t. My job doesn’t take me away from you, J.C. I’m still here when you get back. I’m not going to give up my job just
because you’re jealous of David. That’s something you’re just going to have to work out for yourself. It’s not like you have to
worry about my job.”

She sat down on the edge of the bed next to J.C. “You know, David admitted to me that he liked me as more than a
friend. That shocked me, because I didn’t know how he felt about me.

He wasn’t too happy to hear about what you had done either. You should have seen his reaction when he saw whom
you were out with. I think that he was more disgusted than I was.” Sarah got up suddenly and walked over to the window of her
hotel room. She looked out over the bustling city before her and wished she could be as carefree as the people walking those
streets. Sarah pulled the drapes shut. “We should have communicated with each other more, then maybe we wouldn’t be where we
are right now. But that’s in the past and we’re in the present. What do we do now, J.C.? How do we resolve what’s gone wrong in
our relationship?” She turned around and looked at J.C. “And the uppermost question in my mind is, do you even want to try and
save our relationship?”

J.C. got up and put his arms around Sarah. “Yes, Sarah, I do want to save our relationship. I love you a lot,
or I wouldn’t have let my jealousy get the best of me. I trust you, and I realize now the depth of your feelings for me. I’m
sorry for the way that I acted. I realize that I should have trusted you more than I did. Can you forgive me Sarah?”

Sarah reached up and stroked the side of J.C.’s face. “Yes, J.C., I forgive you. Now that we’ve got the problem
out in the open, and resolved it, we can prevent it from happening again. I love you more than anything, J.C., and I didn’t want
our relationship to just end like that. I was confused and hurt when Chris told me that you were seeing someone else. I thought
that there was something either wrong with me or our relationship for you to do that. That’s when I thought up my plan of making
you jealous.”

“I was doing the same exact thing.” J.C. admitted sheepishly. “I had heard so much about David, that I just got
fed up. I’m sorry that I hurt you like that, Sarah. I should have just talked with you about it, instead of doing what I did.”

“I’m to blame here as well”, Sarah replied. “I reacted blindly out of pure anger when Chris told me what you were
doing. I should have just talked to you about what was going on, instead of fighting fire with fire.” She smiled wickedly. “And
the good thing about a fight is the making up. Especially how I’ll make it up to you.” Sarah reached up and started unbuttoning
J.C.’s shirt.

“What are you doing?” J.C. asked, looking down at Sarah.

“I’m going to make things up with you. That is if you don’t mind.” Sarah replied, running her fingers over J.C’s
bare chest. Her eyes sparkled mischievously. “And judging from what I’m feeling right now, you don’t mind a bit.”

J.C. smiled as he picked Sarah up in his arms. “No, sweetheart, I don’t mind at all. It’s time to make up for
lost time.”

Sunlight streaked through the room as it peeked through the drawn drapes. Sarah stirred sleepily as she rolled
over. She opened her eyes and saw J.C. lying next to her. His features were relaxed in his sleep, and he slept as if he didn’t
have a care in the world. Sarah smiled as the memories of last night ran through her head. She knew in her heart that their
relationship would survive. This was just one more test, one more obstacle to overcome, to prove their love to each other. She
reached over and gently stroked the side of J.C.’s face.

J.C. slowly opened his eyes. “Now this is something to want to wake up to.” He said as he pulled Sarah to his
chest. He bent his head down and kissed her thoroughly on the lips. “I just want to stay here with you forever. But since we
both have our jobs to get back to, I have an even better idea. What do you say to us taking a vacation? Where it would be just
the two of us alone, where no one can bother us? How does that sound?"

“I like that idea, J.C. I can take the time off if you can. But for right now, I can think of a few things to do,
to get you in the mood for that little vacation.”

J.C. laughed. “If you keep this up, I’ll be too tired to even take a vacation!”

Sarah smiled as she looked into J.C.’s dark blue eyes. “Don’t worry, I’ll help you to relax. You’ll be a well-
rested man when I get done with you.”
