The memory hits her quickly and she’s in the middle of her front yard, the sky a hazy gray above her. She’s four years old, sitting on the sidewalk, clutching her baby doll to her chest, wide eyes looking up at the sky. A drop falls directly into her eye, stinging and she snaps them shut, tilting her chin down and shaking her head. She presses her fingers to her doll’s lids, forcing them down but they won’t stay, fluttering open, in danger of being attacked by the droplets as well. And then she hears it as clear as if it were just yesterday. “Come on kiddo, it’s starting to rain.”

I love this story so much. You have captured the vileness of some of the NYC "nobility" so incredibly well, that I'm sick to my stomach with Amelia lol. Justin's spirit is partially broken by the shrew he insists on being with but I love the glimpses you show, he is such a kid at heart and this portrayal makes me smile every time I read one of his antics/comments. I feel so sorry for him and Charlie, that I can only hope they rescue each other.
Get that internet working! Amazing job as always Heather.
Oh and that last line- an absolute classic that never gets old.

I love the fact that this chapter came in two parts!
I really hope Justin is realizing that someone (mainly Charlotte) would be much better for him than Amelia. I can't believe that he doesn't realize that Amelia makes him miserable.
