A Million Faces in a Crowd
Chapter 12

“You brought your camera right?” JC asked Carly from her position on the couch as he emerged from his bedroom decked out in dark sunglasses, jeans and green t-shirt.

“Yeah, I brought it. Why?” she looked at him confused.

“Grab it. I’m going to take you somewhere.” he smiled, walking over and grabbing her hand. “I promise you’ll like it.”

She looked at him, confused. “If you say so.”

***

Carly sat quietly in the passenger seat of JC’s car, taking in the scenery around her. The music from the radio played a soft jazz song, setting a quiet mood for their drive.

Suddenly out of her zone, Carly noticed the car ascending up a hill, not having a clue where they were going. JC had said he had wanted to ‘show her LA’ and she was honestly excited to let him. When the car came to a halt, he quickly got out and rounded it, opening her door and reaching for her hand. “Close your eyes.”

“Yeah right, JC. Who knows where we are.”  he rolled his eyes and chuckled softly. “Oh please Carly. I’m not going to let anything happen to you. Just humor me for ten seconds and do it.”

Sighing she closed her eyes and reached for her camera bag and his outstretched hand. “Don’t throw me off a cliff, Chasez.”  JC laughed as they continued to walk down a dirt path until he stopped.

“I’m appalled you’d think I’d ever do that to you but I suppose I’ll let it slide. Open your eyes, Carly.”

Carly opened her eyes, and gasped at the view that met her eyes. She was standing on the edge of a fenced cliff, up high and down below lie the most gorgeous view of the ocean she’d ever seen. Palm trees off into the distance set the tone for the blue and white waves that crashed together down below. She didn’t know what to say, and couldn’t make the right words meet her lips so she just simply stared, wide eyed and mouth open in awe.

“I take it silence is a good thing?” JC asked after a while. Carly turned to him, smiling wide, as he noticed her eyes were slightly shiny. Suddenly she sat her camera down and launched herself towards him, her arms wrapping around his neck in a tight hug. “This is amazing Jace. I don’t even know what to say. It’s just gorgeous. Thank you so much for bringing me here.”
He smiled, placing a soft kiss on her forehead. “I knew how much you liked your scenery and seeing new places. I couldn’t not bring you here. It’s one of my favorites.”

Carly reached down, grabbing her camera out of the bag as she turned it on. “Thank you again.” she smiled, at walked forward, already beginning her photo session.

“Your welcome, Carly.” he watched as she adjusted the settings on her lens and began snapping away.  He couldn’t help but smile. The girl certainly did appreciate things like this. “Will I be seeing one of these photos on the ‘famous wall’ of case de, Carly?”

She turned to him and smiled. “Yes, you probably will. I’m in awe. I could sit here forever.”

“Ever considered moving to LA?”  Carly stopped what she was doing and turned to look at JC, confusion written on her face. “Not really, no.” Her answer was simple, but still it hurt JC a little bit. It’d certainly make the theory of ‘them’ a little easier to fathom.

“Really? I bet you’d do really well here Carly. You know you’re already making a name for yourself with producing.” She turned to him, her eyes firm and somber.

“I can’t leave Chicago JC. My whole life is there.” He nodded, but then hung his head. He decided not to press the issue. In the back of his mind, he wondered if he’d be enough to make Carly stay. It was only her first week in California with him and he was already dreading the day she left.

“Wanna go down the beach?”

Carly’s eyes lit up as she smiled, placing her camera back in the case and draping it over her shoulder. “Yes! Let’s go.”

JC led Carly down the cement steps that led to the wide open beach. Once her feet touched the sand, it seemed she took on a whole new persona. JC laughed as she kicked off her flip flops and hiked up her jeans to her knees and ran happily into the surf. He followed slowly behind, laughing at her child like antics. It was nice to see Carly enjoy something and not always have up that protective wall he feared she sometimes carried. He was seeing her in a whole new light and loving her inner child.

“Having fun?”

“You have no idea, JC. I changed my mind. I’m never leaving LA. I’m staying right here.”

“You might get kind of cold, honey.”

“I don’t even care. I’m staying put!” she said as she continued to walk down the shore. “Seashells! I need to get some to take home. I want to remember this.”

JC smiled, catching up beside her. “I’ll help, you look.”
“Thanks. Oh hey, here’s a bunch!” Carly began picking up her newly found treasures until she felt a splash of water hit the side of her face. “Oh tell me that wasn’t you!”

JC met her eyes and flashed a million dollar innocent smile. “What are you talking about?” he asked as he watched her eyes turn dark with the beginning signs of anger. “Don’t try to sweet talk me, Chasez. You will only go down the hard way.”

“Here comes Miss Smarty pants. I smell a challenge. In that case..” JC thought for a quick second before he dipped his hand in the shallow water and splashed Carly, sending water up the back of her shirt. He couldn’t hold back his laughter once he heard her scoff. “You’re so dead, Chasez.”

JC took off running down the shore, Carly hot on his heels as a cold splash of water covered him from head to toe. Not long after that, he felt himself hit the water in a large splash and was met with the sweet weight of Carly on top of him. He laughed, seeing the pissed off look on her face and couldn’t help but smile. She looked so adorable when she was mad. The persona fit her perfectly but even JC knew she put up a front most of the time. Still wanting to own up to her punishment, he hit the water with a loud “Ugh.” Carly smiled evilly in return. “It’s just water.” he snickered.

“Do I look like I wanted to get wet?” she challenged. JC bit his lip, trying not to laugh. “You’re a sick man JC.” He let out a full laugh as he sat up, Carly still laying on top of him. “I didn’t say a word!” he said, holding his hands up in defeat. “But if you wanted to tackle me down here for a reason, all you had to do is ask.”

Carly finally laughed, deciding she got her revenge. “Oh baby, yes. Take me now, here on this gorgeous beach in broad day light. I’m sure no one will mind that I just can’t keep my hands off of you.”  JC stood up, pulling Carly along with him. “Fine. Bruise my ego. I’m used to it.”

Carly followed him to the sand as he sat down, dripping wet along with him and saw something sad in his eyes. Had she really offended him by what she said? She knew he’d had his share of girlfriends and they had all apparently ended badly. Maybe what he needed was someone who could show him they couldn’t keep their hands off of him. If truth be told, she was feeling exactly that. She just didn’t want to start something they couldn’t finish and there were still about a hundred kinks she’d yet to sort out in her head about the possibility of her and JC ever being something. Still she felt the need to reassure him, not out of pity but out of the love she honestly felt for him.

He had removed his sunglasses, finding it pointless to dry them off as the rest of him was soaking wet and placed them on top of his head. Taking a leap of faith, Carly sat up on her knees and then moved her legs to straddle his lap, catching him off guard.

Cupping his face in her hands, she made sure his eyes were looking into hers. “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have said that.” He interrupted her, trying to speak. “Carly, it’s fi-.” She placed a finger to his lips, silencing him. “No, let me finish. I need to say I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to offend you. Here you are, being amazing, taking me to places I’ve never seen and I have to be a brat. I don’t always know how to balance my moods and I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to offend you earlier either but I think you need to know that if you’re referring to your crap record with women, they must have not had a brain. You are without a doubt, one of the sexiest men I’ve ever laid my eyes on. You’re kind, you care about people. You’re patient. And yes, I do hold myself back from attacking you most of the time but you know the reasons why. It has nothing to do with you. I said we need to take things slow and see where they could go but you’ve forced me to forget about my plan for now just to reassure you.”  Carly wrapped her arms around his neck, kissing the spot just below his ear. “I guess I’ll just have to molest you right here on the beach.” She whispered. JC groaned, tilting his head back.

“You don’t need to do this honey.” She moved her lips up his jaw, feeling the his stubble against her skin. She pulled back, staring down at him. “You don’t like?” He laughed, looking at her with wide eyes. “That’s not what I said. I just mean you’re doing this for the wrong reasons.”  Carly shook her head. “You’re wrong. Maybe I’ve wanted to do it all day but I didn’t know how to go about it. Maybe you dripping with ocean water turns me on. Maybe I forgot what your lips felt like and wanted to be reminded. Maybe I’m falling hard for you and don’t know how to stop it.” Each confession was declared with a kiss somewhere on his face.

JC placed his hands on her sides, holding her close to him. “What if I said I felt the same and didn’t want you to try to stop it? That if we’re going to fall, it might as well be together?”  Her lips were a breath away from his and it seemed at that moment that everything around her went to a stand still. All she could hear were the waves crashing around her, the seagulls in the distance and hard thud of their hearts beating as one as they held each other close. “It’s going to be hard.”

JC nodded. “I know that.” He kissed each of her eye lids. “But we’ll never know unless we try.”  Carly laid her head on his shoulder. “I can be difficult Jace. I’m not going to say I’ll always be that loveable. I’m a typical woman. I go through moods, I change my mind a lot and don’t always know what I want. I can be a bitch too.”

He laughed again, running his hands through her damp hair. “So you’re human. I do prefer to date women of that species.”  Carly let out a shaky breath, partially from being cold and partially from the heavy conversation they were having. She had no idea that saying what she had would go this far. “Cold honey?”  She nodded, feeling him pull his arms closer around her.

“I don’t know what to say anymore. I’ve lost my train of thought.” Carly turned and settled herself in between his legs, her back to his front. Immediately JC’s long arms closed around her, still holding her close. “It’s alright to not know what to say. Just enjoy the moment.”

Carly nodded and smiled, tipping her head back to meet his eyes. “I’m going to. Thank you for bringing me here, for showing me this place. It’s the best.” JC smiled back, kissing her, letting his lips linger for a second. “You’re welcome. I knew you’d appreciate this.”

“I really do Jace. You have no idea how much.”
***
JC and Carly walked through the front door and into the kitchen to see Tyler sitting at the island typing away at his laptop. He looked at the two strangely noting their soaked state. “What happened?” he asked as JC opened the refrigerator.

“We went down the beach. I started it. I’ll admit.” JC confessed winking at Carly.

“Do I even want to know?” Tyler chuckled. Carly was quick to defend, fearing he would think less of her. She didn’t know why but she felt the need to make herself clear. “Yes. There’s no secret. I was looking for sea shells when someone had to pretend they were five and splash me.”

JC laughed and took a sip from his pop can. “Whatever. You got me back for that. She knocked my flat on my ass. In the water non the less.”

Tyler turned to Carly, holding his hand up waiting for a high five. “Can’t say I blame her.”

“Yeah yeah. Go ahead and gang up on me.”

“So what are you guys going to do for dinner? I didn‘t know what you all were up to so I ordered a pizza. You‘re welcome to join me.”

JC turned to Carly, asking for her opinion. She smiled brightly at him. “Pizza sounds great, Jace. I just want to change out of these wet close before.”

“I do too. Sounds good Ty. We’ll be back in a few.”

Tyler nodded, going back to his laptop. “It’ll probably be here in about ten minutes.”

“Cool. We‘ll be right back.”

He nodded as he watched the pair walk down the hallway, Carly’s hand placed firmly in JC’s. Something had changed between the two of them in the two short days Carly had been in LA. He was beginning to think she was just what his big brother needed to get out of his funk and make him see that it was possible for someone to faithfully love him once again.

***

Carly followed JC into his bedroom, going for her suitcase that sat on the tan couch next to the window. Once JC had grabbed his clothes from his dresser, he disappeared into the connecting bathroom. Carly figured that’s where he was going to change and began undressing herself.

As she was about to pull her gray sports bra over her head, JC came out of the bathroom fully dressed in cargo shorts and a v neck tee and staring like a deer caught in headlights at the site that greeted him. Carly turned quickly but didn’t yell at him.
“Shit Carly. I’m sorry.”

She turned her back towards him, quickly pulling her bra down before she turned back to him. “Don’t worry about it Jace.”

He was surprised. The old Carly would have blown a blood vessel. Still he couldn’t help but stare. He knew she worked out and from what he’d seen, it proved to be very true. Her body drew him like a moth to a flame.

Carly reached into her suitcase and pulled a black tank top over her head, followed by a pair of gray cotton shorts. She looked adorable and comfy all at the same time. Walking passed him from his spot on the edge of the bed, she tapped his chin gently. “Close your mouth Jace. Flies will end up in there.”

He straightened, grabbing her hand and pulling her close to him. “You’re gorgeous, Carly. Any man would have to be blind to not want you.”

She smiled an accepted his embrace. “I can say the same for you, stud but in your case, women would have to be blind.” JC kissed her softly, taking small sips of her as he she melted against him. “I’m going to get tested as soon as possible.” He mumbled.

Carly laughed, pushing away from him enough to meet his eyes. “Somebody’s eager.” JC looked at her seriously. “It’s not just sex Carly. You and I both know it’s more than that.”  She nodded her head, laying it on his shoulder as his arms came around her in that protective mode that he was so good at. He always seemed to know when she was feeling vulnerable and when she needed held. His instincts had been great thus far. They seemed to compliment each other in more ways than one. They stood there in silence, bare footed and wrapped in one another until they heard Tyler yell down the hallway.

“Pizza’s here guys.”

Reluctantly, they pulled apart walking out the door and down the hall, into the kitchen.
***

After an easy dinner of harmless banter and witty joking, JC had insisted on helping Tyler clean up the kitchen, but not before shooing Carly away and insisting she was a guest and didn’t need to help. A half hour later, he found her outside on the balcony, a notebook and pen beside her, and one of his guitars she had asked to borrow close by also.

She looked peaceful. Sitting Indian style, her neatly pink painted toe nails stuck out as she wore a contemplating look on her beautiful face.

“Am I interrupting?”

She looked up and smiled. “Of course not. Just in a zone. Have a seat.” he took a seat beside her and patted her knee gently. She reached over and did the same but quickly went back to her notebook, scribbling lyrics aimlessly.

“How was cleaning up dinner with Tyler?”

JC made a face and rolled his eyes. “Just lovely. He grilled me for information about you but he really likes you Carly. I don’t think he shut up the entire time I was in there.”

She laughed and looked at him funny. “I guess that’s a good thing?”

“Well yeah. It makes things easier when my brother likes my- um,” JC stuttered, his cheeks turning pink. Carly laughed as he gave her a helpless look in return.

“You don’t have to put a label on us JC. We’ll get there, okay? For now we’ll just say we’re two really close friends who want to see where their relationship could go. Sound good?” He let out a woosh of air. “Yeah, that sounds good.”

She winked at him. “I really need to call and check in with my sister. I didn’t tell her I was coming to LA and I’m sure she’s blowing a gasket somewhere. I need to check on my sweet Ava baby too.”

JC looked confused. “Baby?” Carly grinned evilly and decided to feed him the bait. “Yes JC. I thought you knew I had a baby daughter.” At his blank expression she burst out laughing. “Oh gosh, Chasez! I’m kidding. You should have seen your face go three shades of white. I’m talking about my niece. She’s about a month old.”

“You’re evil, Carly Piper.” She batted her eyelashes prettily as he shook his head.

“You love me.”

“Can’t help but not.”

Carly got serious, moving her face a small fraction from his. Her eyes staring directly at his lips. For some reason, she wanted to kiss him at that very moment. “Would you still want to be with me, even if I had a kid JC?”

He pulled back, looking at her even more confused then before. “Of course I would, Carly. I’m not looking to pick apart the pieces I like about you. I want you, warts and all. Flaws and scars. I’m slowing becoming addicted to the entire package.”

She smiled, cupping his face in her hands, kissing him and pulling him closer to deepen it. When she felt his tongue invade her mouth, she moaned against his lips and became a full participant. Her hands dove into his hair scraping her nails against his scalp before pulling away for a second for a quick breath. “Jace, this isn’t fair for either of us.”

Letting out an annoyed grunt, he rested his head against her bare shoulder and tried to calm his breathing. “I know. Trust me, I know.”

“Maybe it’d be better if I left so we weren’t tempted.”

JC stood up, lacing his fingers with hers and kissing her knuckles. “No honey. I’m enjoying spending this time with you. We need to get to know each other. I refuse to base our relationship on a few meetings here and there or some odd amount of time spent working together in the studio. I’d rather not be allowed to kiss you again then not see you, spend time with you.” Carly’s eyes stared back into his, slightly glossed over by what he had just said. She agreed with him on everything he’d confessed. They did deserve this time. Touching was natural, kissing was too, but anything beyond that was out of the question when you were trying to go about things the right way and be safe in doing so. No one ever said it’d be easy.

“Alright. I think I’m going to go call my sister now.” She stood up and grabbed her notebook and his guitar, setting it off to the side. “I need to go get my phone.”

JC nodded. “I think I’m going to go shower while you’re doing that. I feel like I have ocean still left on me.”

“Ha, I know what you mean. I thought about taking one before I went to bed later.”

“You’ll probably slap me for saying this but you know you’re welcome to join me.”

Carly smirked and followed him into the house not being able to miss the shit eating grin he wore across his chiseled cheekbones. “I should but I’ll do that later. Go take your shower Jace.”

JC moved his eyebrows suggestively before kissing her cheek quickly and taking off down the hall. Carly went into the living room to retrieve her cell phone and then walked back out to the balcony to place her call.

Fifteen minutes later, she’d hung up with her sister, a little excited she hadn’t gotten the third degree. Her sister only offered encouraging words and let her know that she was more than happy for her in whatever decision she made when it came to her love life. Of course if it hadn’t been for Ava waking up early from her nap, she might have dug a little deeper. Carly was going to thank her sweet little niece one day for that. Passing by the living room, she was stopped by her name being called.

“Hey Carly, you got a second?”

She looked to see Tyler sitting on the couch, legs propped up on the coffee table, watching a movie. “Sure. What’s up?”  She said as she took a seat beside him.

“I just wanted to let you know that you’ve been really good for my brother. It’s been a long ass time since I’ve seen him this happy. I don’t know what he’s told you or what you’ve heard from the grape vine but he’s been through the ringer.”

“Thanks. He hasn’t really went into detail much but I’ve heard his ex cheated.”

Tyler laughed. “That’s only the half of it. The first time, she cheated on him with his best friend. He was so head over heals in love with Keelie that he was to blind to see what the hell she was doing behind his back. He found out, and for some god awful reason forgave her. Why I’ll never know because they weren’t back together but a week and she was doing it again with someone else. He was convinced she was sorry and that she loved him just as much as he loved her and was ready to purpose. She never told him about the other affair or affairs, whichever- never had the common courtesy to leave him or dump him. He found out from a tabloid. Back then, his music had great potential and he was worthy of being in the public eye. It started out in rumor magazines but they took the bait and ran with it. In the end, they made a mockery out of him. Thankfully, after that, he kicked her out and hasn’t spoken to her since. Putting the pieces together after words took a toll on him. He didn’t go out for the longest time. I swear there were days where he’d stay in bed or in his studio. It killed me to see him like that. I swear if I ever see that bitch face to face, she’s going to get an earful for me.”

Carly stood dumbfounded, looking at Tyler with wide eyes. Her heart ached at that very moment. Not out of pity for JC and what he’d been through but out of empathy for what he’d had to go through. For some reason, the thought of someone hurting him infuriated her beyond belief. When she first met him, she had been mean, believing that the rumors she’d heard were all true and the reality of it was, he was on evil end. In the short time she’d known him she’d seen a soft, giving, vulnerable side to him. The fact that someone would take advantage of that was just inexcusable. “Wow. I don’t know what to say.”

Tyler sat up and patted her shoulder casually. “You don’t have to say anything, girl. I just wanted you to know where he was coming from. Like I said, you’re good for him. When your here, it’s like he’s alive again. He’s all there. When you’re not, he talks about you often. I just wanted to you know that and thank you.”

“You’re welcome. The feeling is mutual.”

“Good. I think you’re just what he needs.”  Carly started to feel unconformable, not knowing how to reply. She and JC knew that nothing was finalized in their relationship yet and didn’t feel right declaring confessions of love to his younger brother just yet, regardless of whatever they might be.  Still there was one more thing she wanted to know if she was getting the low down. “I probably shouldn’t ask, but his music?”

Tyler placed elbows on his knees. “I’ll let him tell you that. I’m sure you’ve already found out that it’s a sore spot.”

“Yeah I have. I’ll wait till he wants to tell me I guess.”

“It’s probably for the best. I’ll let you go now. I’m sure he’s probably waiting for you.”

“Yeah. Thanks Tyler.”

“Not a problem, Carly.”

***
Walking into JC’s bedroom where she’d been sleeping since she arrived in LA, Carly heard the faint sounds of the shower water hitting the title floor. She’d figured he’d have been done for a while by now. Letting her thoughts gather, she tried to take in everything that had happened in the last hour. The dinner she’d shared with JC and his brother, goofing around like they were all old friends to the brief but intimate moment they’d shared on the balcony to the groan of frustration he’d let out when she decided it was best they stop their heated make out session to his brother giving her very important details about his past. She tried to wool it all together, to make some sort of sense out it of but she couldn’t. Right at that moment, she put away her confusion, her fears and doubts and fed off the love she knew she had for him.

Slowly stepping through the door, she closed it as quietly as possible. Shedding her clothes, Carly stood at the clear door that had been steamed up from the hot water he used. Trying to go unnoticed but not give him a heart attack at the same time, she pulled the handle back and stepped in behind him.

Immediately her hands snaked around his slim waist where she felt him jump but he quickly relaxed, turning around slowly in her embrace, his eyes a dark shade of blue and wide with wonder. “Baby?” he asked. He didn’t want to overstep that boundary but he needed some kind of permission before he continued. He could tell she wanted more even if he wasn’t going to be able to love her like they wanted.

Carly didn’t speak. She pulled his head down, finding his lips and pulled them hungrily against her own. Her small fingers dove into his wet hair, noticing that when it was wet it tented to become curly. They both gasped when bare skin met bare skin and their bodies were slick and pressed together. JC’s hands went directly for her hips, running the tips of his fingers over every curve and dip of skin he could find. They moved upward, to the side of her ribs, until they met her breasts, taking time to weigh each of them in his hand. He ran the his thumbs over the sensitive peaks, causing Carly to moan his name in a breathy whisper. From there his lips moved to her neck, kissing, nipping and licking, driving her crazy. He settled them right beside her ear, feeling her shiver as he whispered. “What are we doing, honey?”

Eyes closed, head titled back in invitation to his addicting lips, Carly found the strength to respond. “Making out in the shower, Jace.”

He groaned, moving his lips lower, capturing a nipple in his mouth, sucking hungrily. Carly grasped onto his neck for dear life, not knowing that coming in here would end up in this hot, sexual moment.  It was at that moment, that she knew she had become addicted to this man. To his lips, to his touch. Even though they were both wanting release, he took the time to love her slow like she disserved. It was little things like that that made Carly see a future with JC. He was learning her body with his hands and mouth. It was almost too much too take.

He backed her against the tile wall, the cool feel of it nearly waking her from her reverie. Her hands traveled down his back, feeling every indentation as his muscles moved. The man was made of all muscle. Carly’s mind flashed back to the day he’d answered the hotel room door in nothing but a towel. It had seemed so long ago but she was more then happy to be reliving it first hand, here in his shower. The spray continued to fall down his back, splashing in between then as it poured off his shoulders. He was only too happy to lick the flooding droplets wherever they fell between them on Carly’s body.

His lips found hers once again as his hands traveled down her back, caressing her bottom and pulling her tightly against him. His hand stilled for a second at her hip, palm moving in slow circles. They began the journey down her leg to her calf and back up as he lifted it to wrap around his slim waste. His long fingers moved to her stomach, then began the journey lower. Carly nearly cried out, her voice muffled in his shoulder where she had recently placed her head. “Jace, please.”

He pulled her back to look into her eyes, asking permission in a way. Kissing her passionately, he tangled his tongue with hers as he added another finger to her readiness. She stilled at the feel of him, then let her body relax as he continued. She needed this just as much as he did. “I’ve got you baby. Just enjoy this.” he purred as his fingers slid in and out of her.  Carly panted, trying her best to enjoy this, to get lost in the feeling of him but she didn’t find it fair that she was the only one enjoying it. Reaching between them, she grabbed a hold of him, hot and hard against her stomach.

She’d come in here for the both of them, not just for herself. He hissed out a breath as her fingers found him as his forehead came to rest against hers. “Baby this is suppose to be for you.” Carly shook her head, eyes dark and fierce as she leaned forward to nip at his lips, moving against his touch. “No it’s not Jace. This is about us.”

He let out a groan, deep in his throat, a declaration of pent of sexual frustration as she quickened her pace, gripping him harder in her fingers. The water seemed to pour down on them, the entire bathroom steamed up from what they had guessed to be more then just the water as they both moved together in usion, kissing, licking and nipping at any skin possible. When their breathing became quicker and actions more frantic, JC took the side of Carly’s face in one hand and kissed her hotly as they both cried out together. Neither moved, neither could stop the thudding of heart beats as they were pressed together, hands placed haphazardly between them. Moments passed as the water and steamed flowed around them, neither noticing it until finally JC moved and laid his head on Carly’s chest, his hand dropping to hug her close as her leg came down from his grasp. “God baby, why- tell me why didn’t we do that sooner”

Carly let out a weak and sedated laugh. “I only wish I knew, Jace.”

“Did you come in here to shower or to do that?” She pulled away from the wall. “I came in here to shower but decided I wanted you more.”

JC took her hand, pulling her gently in front of the shower spray, coming behind her and grabbing a shampoo bottle. “That I can help you with too baby.”

“Mmm, I’ll let you do just that.” Carly smiled, feeling him massage the shampoo into her hair as she leaned back against the firmness of his chest.

***
Carly lie peacefully, tucked under the solid weight of JC’s arms as they laid in bed that night. JC had been reading a book, glasses perched on his nose as he watched her drift in and out of sleep. Pulled out of his thoughts by the loud ringing noise, JC ran a hand over her face softly. “Carly, your phones ringing sweetheart.”
She mumbled incoherently, snuggling deeper into her bedmate before she murmured “Ignore it Jace. I‘ll call them back in the morning.”
