"Wake up , wake uppp." I sang out into my younger sister's room as I entered it one morning. "Ugh, gimme one more hour Gen..." she groaned.  "Girl, it's 6:00 AM, now get up!" I yelled playfully then swatted her on the butt once she finally garnered the strength to rise out of bed. Yeah, she was a pain, but I loved that girl with all of my heart. She and my profession where the only two loves of my life and they had been for some time now. I had been taking care of Justice with little assistance from family members since I was 19. Our parents died in a fatal train derailment while they were on their way to Mississippi some years back. She took it a lot better than I did. There were some nights she had to usher a devastated me to bed and tell me things were going to be alright when she was all but 10 years old.

So, here we are today, slowly but surely moving on. As I was in thought,  I felt her hastily walk pass me, then I remembered something important that im sure she was hoping I forgot.

"STOP-rigght there young lady." I demanded as I watched her quickly turn to face me and saw the color completely drain from her face.

"Mrs.Parr called me last night, apparently you've been ditching math toturing." I  stated.   "Yeah, I did Gen, but only twice, I swear" she said.

"Justice Leanne, im not going to be handing this woman 25 dollars a week just for you to be skipping." I expressed.

"I know, I know, and im sorry. But I can't do it anymore Genesis, it's BEYOND hard." She went on, "like, math is the most nerve racking thing on this planet, Satan wipes his ass with math work I bet." She concluded with a giggle. She's a mess I tell you, a mess.

"Ok, no more tutoring, BUT you will start it again sophomore year, alright?" I commanded more than questioned.

"Right". She replied as we both headed towards the door to leave.

As I pulled into the parking lot my workplace, I couldn't help but to smile to myself. I took up residency at East Jefferson Regional a few months ago as an RN.  I may be a bit cliché but I've always wanted to work in the medical field. I remember growing up and being obsessed with all of those medical shows on Discovery Health and TLC while other kids my age enjoyed Nickelodeon and Disney Channel. My parents' death also made me push further for my goal. Ever since then I've told myself if im ever confronted with the challenge of saving a life I'll try my hardest to do so.

The work day was kind of slow, then again, we don't get anything too extreme in the pediatric department. Right before it was time for me to clock out, I heard an ear piercing cry. A disoriented woman and her hysterical daughter were sent in from the emergency room. "What seems to be the issue Miss?" I ask the lady with great concern. "my daughter, sh-she cut herself on a rusty nail that came loose from her doorframe." She said, raising her daughter's arm to show me the long, jagged cut running from her thumb to the middle of her forearm. Damn, that's a nasty snag, I guess was that she had ran either into or out of her room and the nail scraped her had she went past.

"Let me take her temperature over here and check her heartbeat for a sec." I say as I scope the little girl into my arms and into a nearby room. Her heartbeat was unusually fast and she had a fever through the roof. This could only mean..

"Nurse Anderson!" I called out to the tall, dirty blonde man walking by, catching his attention.

"This child needs a tetanus shot, pronto. Please get the required supplies" I command.

"Im on it." Replies Anderson as he rushes away. He's back in record time with everything needed.

"Ok sweetie, this is Nurse Anderson, he and I are going to give you two little shots alright?" I said. The little girl looks up at him with glossy eyes then giggles, "you're a nurse?" she asks in amusement.

He smiles, and if im not mistaken, even blushed a little. "Yes, it's a little weird I know."

"Now I need you to stretch out your hurt arm nice and long for me ok love?" he says as I set up. I notice the apprehension in her face.

"It will only hurt a tad, k?" I reassure her with a smile and she nods.

"1,2,3." We both say as we simultaneously stick the needles in her wound area.

"Now that wasn't too bad for a boy nurse was it?" Anderson teases as the girl laughs. I return her back to her mother and finally make my way out of the door. As I approach my car and unlock the door, I hear a voice call out to me.

"Genesis! Hey!" he shouts as I turn around to see Silas Anderson jogging up to me.

"You forgot this," he states as he hands me my Tiffany tennis bracelet I took off from earlier. "figured you'd go insane once you got home and realized you left it, ay?" he questions with a hint of his Australian accent breaking through.

"Oh, thanks you Silas, I appreciate that" I say with a genuine smile.

"Nice work back there". He says, referring to the episode with the little girl.

"You too, Nurse Anderson" I chortle, thinking back to the little girl's reaction.

He  gives a coy smirk "Yeah, yeah, laugh it up," then, he gets serious " but, I kind of was wondering.. we've been working in pretty close quarters but haven't really got to know each other more.- platonically that is." He says. He's too cute for words right about now, all red-faced and what not.

"Are you asking me out, Silas?" I ask as I play coy.

"As a fellow nurse.." he says while looking down, his New Balance suddenly becoming interesting to him.

"Yes, I'll go out with you, AS a fellow nurse". I decide. I didn't think the smile on his face could get any bigger.

"Great! I'll pick you up tomorrow? At 8?" he asks.

"Good time." I confirm. He said our goodbyes then we both entered our cars and drove away.

Later that night as I prepared for bed, my phone began to ring.

"Hello, Devereaux residence."

"So, this is how it's gonna be?" the voice asks.

"Um, who is this?" I question, but the caller ignored my demand.

"You know Genesis, I figured you had more sense than that." He seethes

"Excuse me? How do you know my name? Who ARE you?!"

"You think he likes you?" he inquires "He probably wants to see just how much of a good fuck you are, I couldn't blame the guy though."

"How do yo-? Wh-What th-? Im hanging up!" I shout into the receiver as I slam it down onto it hook. I immediately jump out of bed and run to Justice's room.

She was sound asleep.

I then proceeded to go down stairs and check all the windows and door locks. I sprinted to my room after doing so. My blood was coursing through me with fear. Who was that? How did he know about Silas? How did he know my name?

WHAT  IN THE ACTUAL FUCK?
