After eating their starters and the main courses, Eve felt still hungry while Josh just eaten half of his steak. 

„You want the dessert straightaway?“ The waitress asked, while tidying up their table.

„No.“ Josh said.

„Yes.“ Eve contradicted. 

He gave her an irritated look. The waitress smiled and left them alone in the next moment. Eve noticed Josh was wondering about her eating behavior and felt the urge to explain. 

„I lost weight recently.“

„I noticed.“

Finally she dared looking deep into his eyes and got lost in them for a few seconds. Her heart immediately accelerated. 

„Congrats, Eve. He’s making you wet just by looking back at you.“ She was thinking. 

In her imagination she just crawled over the table to sit down at his lap to kiss him dizzy. 

„Can we talk now?“ Josh asked carefully and brought her back to reality.

Eve nodded. 

„I want you to come back home.“ He said. 

She didn’t expect him saying that. 

„Just like this?“

„No.“

„No?“

„I have one condition.“

Eve frowned. 

„Which condition, Josh?“

He took a deep breath before moving on. 

„I don’t want you having any contact to Justin.“

Eve needed to process. 

„Why?“ She finally asked. 

„Is this a serious question?"

„Yes.“ 

Josh sighed. 

„Justin is your weak spot.“

„He isn’t.“ 

„Then why all of this shit happened to us, Eve?“ 

„That kiss didn’t mean anything. I’m not even close for having any kind of romantic feelings for him.“ 

„It’s hard to believe.“ 

„Josh, please give me a chance to get your trust back.“ 

„It’s not that easy.“ 

„I understand. And I don’t expect you just forgetting what I did to you. But to make things work, I need you to trust me again.“

Josh shook his head.

„I insist on it, Eve. That’s the deal.“ 

„Well, then we have a serious problem here.“ 

He was turning upset. 

„Do you think all of this is easy for me? I never forgave anyone for cheating. It cost me all my strength breaking my own rules for you! Am I really asking for too much when I expect you keeping yourself away from him?“ 

„I can’t allow you telling me who I can talk to or not, Josh. This is not a healthy way of dealing with the situation and you know it.“ 

Josh scoffed. 

„It’s funny you said that, as you promised me once, you would keep your distance after what happened at our damn kitchen island, remember? If you had kept that promise, all of that crap would have never happened to us!“

The waitress arrived with the dessert. She noticed the sudden bad mood at their table and disappeared quickly. 

Eve lost her appetite and just stared at Josh. She was very frustrated that their conversation turned into another fight. 

„Take the deal or leave it. It’s up to you.“ Josh added. 

He was disappointed that she made things so hard for him. 

Eve took a deep breath. Then she grabbed her purse out of her bag and put enough cash on the table to pay for the whole check. 

„What are you doing, Eve?“ Josh asked.

She ignored his question and stood up. 

„No deal.“ She said and left their table. 

Josh watched her disappear and sighed with deep frustration. 

„What the fuck, Justin! She just stood up and left him alone!“ Mateo squeaked, watching the scene. 

Hastily Justin turned around. 

„No! No, no, no!“ He shouted and raised himself in the same moment. 

Mateo did as well. Both hurried into Josh’s direction and stopped standing at his table. 

„What did you do?!“ Mateo blamed Josh. 

„Do me a favor and just leave me alone.“ He replied. 

„Dude, where did she go?“ Justin asked next.

„How the hell I know…“

„Damn it, JC! I thought you want her back!“ Mateo continued blaming. 

„I want her back! But she’s not willing to agree to my condition.“ 

„Which condition, bro?“ Justin wanted to know. 

Josh sighed again.

„Not having any contact to you.“

„Jesus! This is ridiculous!“ Mateo said. 

Justin was processing. He didn’t expect Josh would made such a condition.

„Why she didn’t agree?“ He asked curiously. 

„Because she wants me to trust her.“

„Well, it makes sense, right?“ Mateo replied. 

„It’s not that easy, Matty.“ Josh answered. 

„Come on, C. Without trust your relationship has no future.“ Justin said carefully. 

„I do trust her in million ways. But if it comes to you, I don’t.“ Josh said. 

Mateo was losing his patience. 

„Josh, listen to me! I’m sick and tired of this unbearable situation! That woman is hardly alive since you disappeared out of her life. Screw your stupid condition and make things right before it’s too late and…“

„And what?“ Josh and Justin said at the same time. 

„Before she does something unforgivable.“ Mateo added. 

„What the hell are you talking about?“ Josh asked impatiently. 

„Spill!“ Justin forced him. 

Mateo closed his eyes for a second and took a deep breath. 

„She will kill me for telling you.“ He whispered.

„Mat! Say it!“ Josh demanded.

„Eve is pregnant.“

Mateo grabbed his face with both hands in deep desperation, not knowing if he would survive the next day. 

Josh was processing hard. This was the last thing he expected to learn tonight. How was this even possible? Adrenaline rushed through every cell of his body and his heart beaten out of control. Then he jumped up from his chair and run out of the restaurant. Justin was staring at Mateo in disbelief, before he let himself fall at Josh’s chair. Mateo sat down opposite of him.

„I didn’t know they decided making a baby…“ Justin stammered, still being lost in thoughts.

„They didn’t.“ Mateo replied.

Justin looked at him. 

„I don’t understand.“

„Before we went to Cuba and before Eve knew our boss was leaving the firm, she got rid of her birth control implant. But she didn’t tell Josh about it.“

„Why not?“ 

„She didn’t explain to me in detail what was going on in her mind, but I’m pretty sure she wanted to surprise him with a positive pregnancy test some day.“ 

„Holy shit… I didn’t see that coming…“ 

„However, when our boss offered the partnership, Eve changed her mind.“ 

„Still, she got pregnant.“

„Yes. It happened faster than she expected. As she went to the doctor’s to get another implant, it was already too late.“

„How far is she?“

„Eight weeks.“ 

„Matty, when you said she might do something unforgivable, did you mean…?“

„Yes.“

Justin turned out of mind and bent his upper body towards Mateo. 

„She can’t do that! This would destroy him!“ 

„It will destroy both of them. That’s why I told you. Josh is the only one who can convince her not making the biggest mistake of her life.“  

At the same time Eve was standing in front of the building at the valet and waiting for her car. She tried not to cry after her fight with Josh. Impatiently she was running up and down, wondering what was taking the driver so long.

„EVE!“ She suddenly heard Josh shouting from distance.

She turned into his direction and saw him running towards her. He stopped in front of her and caught his breath.

„I’m tired Josh. I don’t wanna talk anymore.“ She said, still fighting hard against her tears. 

„Why you didn’t tell me?!“ He blamed her. 

„Tell you what?“ 

„That you’re expecting a baby!“ 

Eve immediately turned pale and her knees gone week. She couldn’t believe Mateo betrayed her this way. 

„Say something, Eve!“ He demanded. 

„I don’t owe you anything, Josh. This is my body…“

Finally she started crying. She wasn’t strong enough keeping her tears away any second longer. Josh calmed down a little, seeing her desperation. 

„Eve. You’re keeping the baby, right? Please don’t tell me you are planning to…“

Josh’s voice was breaking. Eve wiped away her tears. Then she grabbed one hand into her bag and put a small flat box outside. It was having a blue ribbon. Then she started explaining. 

„I wanted to bring this to your house at midnight. But as things came different… happy birthday, Josh.“ 

She gave him the box, while he was staring at her in deep confusion. In the same moment Eve’s car arrived. Immediately she turned away and hurried inside. 

„Eve! Don’t go like this!“ Josh said, but she didn’t listen. 

Instead she slammed the driver’s door and left in the next second. 

Josh was completely overwhelmed. He watched her disappear before giving his attention back to the box in his hands. Slowly he opened the ribbon and then the lid. Inside the box was a photo frame with the first ultrasound picture of their baby. Eve sticked a speech bubble above the baby’s head saying:

„I know we didn’t meet, yet. But something tells me, you’re going to be my hero. I love you daddy.“ 

„Oh Eve…“ Josh talked to himself, while tears were running down his cheeks.
