In the next moment a young nurse entered the room with a long cotton stick in her hand. 

„Good morning, Mr. Chasez. I’m here for your paternity test sample.“ She explained, coming few steps closer. 

Justin was watching the scene. 

„No.“ Josh replied. „I already explained to your colleague yesterday afternoon, that I don’t want that test.“ 

„You can test me.“ Justin suddenly said. 

The nurse and Josh looked at him irritated. 

„I wanna proof, that Jake isn’t mine.“ Justin said, looking at his friend. 

„You don’t have to do this,T. I believe you.“ 

„But I wanna proof it. Come on.“ Justin insisted, looking at the nurse now. 

„I don’t understand.“ The nurse said confused. 

„I was suspected being the father. So it doesn’t matter whose sample you take, right?“

„Well, yes…“

„Good. Then just take my sample instead of his.“  

When Justin was gone, Josh needed to process what he’ve just learned about his best friend and his point of view.

After his first physiotherapy he decided to bring things into order. 

„Are you still in town? [Jay]

„Yes. Why?“ [Jen]

„I need to talk to you.“ [Jay]

Justin entered Eve’s office building, seeing Clara smiling friendly.

„Mr. Bond, good to see you.“ She said, giving him a wink. 

„Same to you, Clara.“ He replied, smiling back. „I’m here to see…“

„Moneypenny. I know.“ Clara finished his sentence. „Unfortunately she has a day off.“ 

„Oh.“ Justin replied surprised. „Then let me talk to Mateo.“ 

Clara nodded and made a short call. Then she gave Justin a visitor pass and let him enter the open office. He needed to pass Sarah’s desk, before entering Eve and Mateo’s office. 

„Hi, Timberlake.“ Sarah said sassy. 

„Hi. Where is Eve today?“ He wanted to know. 

„I have no idea.“ Sarah replied.

Mateo noticed Justin through his open door.

„Come in, JT!“ He shouted. 

Justin did what he said and closed the door. Then he looked at Mateo, not knowing what to say first. 

„You and JC hit rock bottom.“ Mateo started talking. 

Justin sighed. Then he went to Eve’s desk and let himself fall at her chair.

„I know. But what I don’t understand is, why you told C the whole story without any warning.“ 

„It was time to make him realize what a giant mess he caused. But he also asked questions about you. I didn’t see any reason hiding things. It would come out sooner or later anyway.“ 

Justin just nodded, not being in the mood for another fight. 

„How is she?“ He wanted to know next. 

Mateo scoffed. 

„Losing you caused more pain then you might believe. When you moved out, she broke down. Lucy and Lance found her at home, lying on the floor in your bedroom. If you think, letting you go was easy for her, then you must be an idiot.“

Justin’s heart broke while listening to Mateo.

„I didn’t expect that.“ 

„Why not? Did she give you any reason doubting her feelings for you?“ 

„No, she didn’t… but things just have started… I didn’t know she got involved so hard… that fast…“ 

„You are wrong, Justin. Things didn’t just have started. You lived together for almost a half year. You were her person. She loved you without even noticing.“ 

„Matty… I already feel like shit… please don’t do this to me now…“ Justin replied. 

Mateo sighed.

„Well, maybe it comforts you knowing, that comparing to JC, you’re still a saint.“

„I can’t believe what he did… I mean the thing with Jen… this is so fucked up…“

„Justin, listen to me. You must bring him back to his senses.“ 

„Trust me, I tried. But I don’t know, if he’ll listen to me. He’s stubborn like hell.“ 

„The situation is really serious.“ 

„What do you mean?“ 

„Eve moved out of his house.“

„What?!“

„Honestly, I can’t blame her for giving up. No one deserves suffering so much pain and heartache at once. She needs distance and time to process, before her broken soul completely falls apart.“ 

Josh asked Monica to escort him outside into the garden. He didn’t want lying in bed all the time, when he wasn’t having therapy. She followed him with a wheelchair to a free bench.

„Thank you for bringing me.“ Josh said, sitting down at the bench. 

„You’re welcome. I’ll make a break now and pick you up later.“ Monica said.

Jen showed up few minutes later. Josh saw her coming closer from distance and turned nervous. With a big smile in her face, she sat down next to him and hugged him close. 

„It’s so good to see you again.“ She said.

„Thank you for coming.“ Josh replied. 

„What is going, Jay? I have the feeling, you’re not okay.“

Josh took a deep breath.

„Listen. I owe you an apology.“ 

Jen raised her eyebrows.

„Why?“ 

„I shouldn’t have written you. Instead of accepting, that things between us were over, I acted like there was still something between you and me. This wasn’t fair.“

„Jay. What if there is still something between you and me?“ 

„What are you trying to say?“ 

„I can see that you miss me. And honestly, I feel the same about you…“

Josh sighed. 

„Yes, I miss what we’ve had. But at the same time I need to remind myself, that life moved on and that’s there is no way back for you and me.“

„There’s a way…“ 

„I’m married to another woman. We are having a kid.“

„But you don’t want this. I can see clearly that you don’t want all of this.“

„I’m confused, Jen. I don’t know what I want. The truth is, I can’t trust myself right now.“

„You need to listen to your heart, Jay…“

„I believe my heart is betraying me and I’m deeply concerned, that I’ll regret if I listen to it.“ 

„Don’t be so hard to yourself. You’ve almost lost your life. But for some reason you suddenly came back. I think you need to see the circumstances as a second chance to figure out what you really want from life.“

„Watch out, she’s manipulating you…“ Josh was thinking. 

„I can’t take the risk.“

Jen wasn’t ready giving up that easily. Suddenly she cupped his face with both hands and kissed his lips.

Josh couldn’t be more overwhelmed as in this moment. He didn’t know what to do. Her lips on his felt so familiar. He was thinking about kissing her back and pulling her closer to his body, but something was holding him back. He didn’t know what it was, but the situation couldn’t feel more wrong. He grabbed Jen’s upper arms and pushed her away gently. 

„What’s wrong?“ She asked, trying very hard to hide her frustration. 

„Everything.“ He answered.

„What do you mean?“

„Everything about us is wrong, Jen. I can’t explain why. I just simply know.“ 

Monica was standing in the smoking zone at the entrance. She was close enough to Josh to witness what just happened between him and Jen. 

„Son of a bitch.“ She was thinking. 

The next day Justin met Lance for their workout in the fitness gym. They didn’t see each other since the day they’ve met in the diner to talk about Eve. 

„How are things?“ Lance asked, starting his warm up at the treadmill next to Justin’s.

„I heard what happened to Eve when I moved out.“ Justin said. 

Lance was surprised. 

„Where does this information come from? Lucy and I decided keeping quiet.“ 

„Mateo.“

„Oh.“

„Why you decided keeping quiet?“

„Because there was no reason telling anyone that Eve broke down. Especially not you.“

„I felt like shit before I knew. But now it’s killing me what I did to her…“ 

„T, come on. Don’t blame yourself. This was the right thing to do and you know it.“ 

„I didn’t realize how much she…“

„Loves you…?“

„Yes…“

„She belongs to C, Justin. No matter what she feels for you, she belongs to C…“ 

„Did you know that Jen showed up?“

Lance opened his eyes wide. 

„What??? Are you shitting me???“ 

„No. He wrote her behind Eve’s back and then she came to L.A.“

Lance was truly concerned.

„Oh fuck… this is not good…“

„C also knows about me and Eve from Matty.“

„What? Why is Matty interfering so hard?“ 

„He just wanted to be fair to him, I guess.“

„So, how is the situation between you and C now?“

„Tensed, I would say. But we talked about everything and I guess he believes me, that I didn’t plan to stand in their way.“ 

„And the thing with Jen?“ 

„I tried to convince him to break up whatever he started. But you know how stubborn he can be.“

„Then let’s pray, that he’ll get his memory back, before something unforgivable happens.“
