Few hours passed by. Josh ate some junk food, instead of ordering dinner, as he thought Eve might be hungry as well after finishing work. But as it turned 10 PM, he started wondering why she didn’t return home, yet. Then he grabbed his phone. 

„Where are you?“ [Josh]

Eve was lying at Lucy’s yellow sofa. She fell asleep during watching a series and woke up by the sound of an incoming message. She grabbed her phone from the coffee table and read Josh’s text. Her heart accelerated. 

„What is going on with him?“ She wondered. 

„Why you care?“ [Cupcake]

„Because I’m worried.“ [Josh]

Eve couldn’t be more confused as she was right in that moment.

„Whatever drugs they gave you, take less next time.“ [Cupcake]

Josh felt annoyed, receiving her answer. He knew he didn’t deserve better, but his concern was real and he didn’t like that she was making fun of him. Still, he didn’t want to start another fight and decided ignoring her sarcastic response. 

„Why aren’t you home, yet?“ [Josh]

Eve frowned, still not understanding what he wanted from her. 

„I am home. [Cupcake]

„No, you’re not.“ [Josh]

„Why would you say that?“ [Cupcake]

„They let me leave the hospital this afternoon. That’s why I’m home. And you’re obviously not.“ [Josh]

Eve’s heart skipped a beat. She wondered why they let him leave the clinic so early.

„As I already said, I am at home. The thing is, your home and my home aren’t the same place anymore.“ [Cupcake]

Josh read Eve’s answer over and over again, trying to understand what has happened. He didn’t know how to react. Eve moving out of his house was something he didn’t expect. 

In the next morning Eve went to the clinic and found Monica in the nurse’s office. She was carrying Jake in his baby-seat. 

„Eve, hi. Good to see you.“ Monica said and came closer to hug her. 

Eve hugged her back and forced a smile. 

„I came for the paternity test.“ 

„Of course.“ Monica said and looked for the envelope. „Here you go.“ 

Eve took the envelope and put it into her bag, without opening it. 

„Is Josh’s doctor somewhere?“ I need to talk to him.“ She wanted to know next. 

„I believe he’s in his office.“ 

Eve smiled again.

„Thank you for everything, Monica. It was good to have you around during all this months.“

Monica looked at Eve, feeling deeply sorry that things ended like they ended.

„I wish you all the best. Eve. Please take care.“

Both hugged each other again. 

„I will.“ 

Josh’s doctor was busy writing a report, when someone knocked at his door. 

„Come in.“ He said. 

Eve entered his office. He looked at her surprised.

„Mr. Chasez, good morning. What brings you here?“

Eve came closer, before she replied. 

„I came to apologize.“

He looked at her confused.

„For what?“

„For being a bitch.“ 

The doctor chuckled and stood up from his chair. 

„You don’t have to.“

„I think I do. I made you responsible for all my frustration and anger. Honestly, I can’t remember being nice to you even once.“

„Well, that’s not totally wrong.“ He teased.  

„I’m sorry, doctor. My behavior was completely inappropriate. I shouldn’t have given you such a hard time.“ 

„Don’t worry, we’re good.“ 

Eve smiled. She decided this was the right moment to leave. But before she reached his door, he made her stop.

„Eve, please tell me, how are things at home?“

„I don’t know. I moved out before Josh returned home.“

„Oh.“

„I can’t bear the fact, that he’s in love with his ex again.“

„I understand. But one day, he will regret.“

„We will see.“ 

Josh was sleeping late. He had trouble falling asleep in the new bed. He’ve spent hours thinking about the whole situation with Eve and tried to figure out what he wanted at this point. 

He woke up by the sound of the doorbell. Slowly he opened his eyes. He needed a second to remember where he was. The doorbell rang another time. He left the bed, just wearing boxer briefs and went downstairs. 

„You woke me up, T.“ Josh complained, after opening up.

Justin entered the house.

„Why you didn’t tell me, that they let you going back home? I almost had a heart attack when I came to the clinic and noticed your room was empty.

Josh chuckled. 

„Sorry, man. I was busy getting used to that house and its new design, while thinking about Eve and the fact that she left. I completely forgot telling anyone that I’m back home.“ 

Justin looked at his friend. 

„Eve is gone because you gave her no other choice.“ 

Josh ignored Justin’s blame. 

„Did you know she moved out?“ 

„Matty told me.“ 

„So? Where is she now?“

„I guess in Lucy’s apartment in Santa Monica. They used to live there together before Eve moved in here. Lucy kept her place as she went to Orlando.“ 

Both men went into the kitchen. Josh started the coffee maker and Justin sat down at the kitchen island. 

„How do you feel after kissing Jen?“ Justin wanted to know. 

Josh turned into his direction and rolled his eyes.

„Mateo again?!“

„Yes.“

„He’s such a gossip!“

„He is. Anyway, answer my question.“ 

„First of all, I didn’t kiss her. She kissed me. And no, I didn’t enjoy it.“

Justin raised his eyebrows. 

„Oh really?“ 

„It felt weird. It’s hard to explain.“

„Sounds like your subconscious knew you’ve been doing a giant mistake.“

„Maybe you’re right.“

„And what will you do about the situation with Eve now?“

Josh finished making coffee and brought the mugs to the kitchen island. Then he sat down next to his friend. 

„I think it’s better keeping distance.“ 

„Why?“ 

„Because I can’t do life with a woman I don’t know, T. The imagination having her and the baby around overwhelms me.“

„So, your plan is to continue excluding her of your life?!“

Josh sighed.

„Look. I’ve had an intensive flashback when I returned home. It almost scared the shit out of me. But I believe my memory is slowly coming back. After thinking about all of this, I came to the point that I should give myself more time to find my way back into life.“

„Are you saying, you wanna wait until your memory is back, before seeing your wife again?!“

„I need time! Is this so hard to understand?!“

Justin grabbed his face, trying to understand Josh’s point of you.

„I get it… but Eve is suffering…“ 

„She wouldn’t feel any better being here with me.“

„Why you think that?“ 

„Because I’m not ready to open up myself.“

Justin looked at Josh for a moment. He didn’t want to fight again. His friend needed his support. That’s why he decided to act understanding for a change. 

„Okay. But there’s one thing I expect you to do.“

„Which is?“

„Talk to Eve in person and explain.“

Josh stared back at Justin. Then he agreed. 

As she left the doctor’s office Eve received a text message. She took her phone out of her bag and checked the text, before she reached the parking lot. 

„Let’s talk.“ [Josh]

„About what?“ [Cupcake]

„Please meet me at home.“ [Josh]

Eve entered her car in the meanwhile, staring at her phone. She didn’t feel like meeting Josh as she was scared not being able to keep herself together in front of him. But she was curious what he wanted from her, as well. Then she closed her eyes and took a deep breath.

„Fine.“ [Cupcake]
