You never looked so good/As you did last night/Underneath the city lights/There walking with your friend/Laughing at the moon/I swear you looked right through me/But I'm still livin' with your goodbye/And you're just goin' on with your life

Kandace watched as the man she loved seemed to stare right through her. She was in his plain sight, but yet, he didn’t acknowledge her presence. It had been a week since they broke up. One day everything was fine, the next, he completely ignored her. She called out to him, but he didn’t even turn his head in her direction. His friend said something to him, and they began to walk in her direction. She smiled, hoping he finally saw her and they were coming over to talk. They continued walking, and passed right by her. She stood in shock, then the tears came.

How can you just walk on by/Without one tear in your eye/Don't you have the slightest feelings left for me/Maybe that's just your way/Of dealing with the pain/Forgetting everything between our rise and fall/Like we never loved at all

She sat on the nearby bench and cried her eyes out. After three years, how could he just ignore her like that? They had been through so much together and it ended so abruptly. She wiped her eyes and headed for the apartment she shared with her best friend Jane. When she got there, they talked. She explained how she saw him in the park, and he didn’t even look in her direction. Neither women could understand his actions. He was never one to hold a grudge, or to just completely let go. Everything always got talked out and thoroughly explained. It wasn’t over until both parties had their say, and came to a compromised solution. They had broken up before, but still talked, and eventually got back together. Something wasn’t right and she needed to find out what it was.

You, I hear you're doin' fine/Seems like you're doin' well/As far as I can tell/Time is leaving us behind/Another week has passed/And still I haven't laughed yet/So tell me what your secret is/To letting go, letting go like you did, like you did

The next week, Jane did a little investigation of her own. She knew his friends, were he worked, even where he often hung out when he had down time. She went to his favorite little diner and sat in the corner watching him. He was talking and laughing with his buddies. They all found something one had said extremely funny. After a few minutes, she left. She gave Kandace all the info she had, which made her even more upset.

“How can he break my heart and just sit there laughing? They were probably making fun of me. I just want to know why he did it, that’s all. Just why?” she said breaking down into tears again

Did you forget the magic/Did you forget the passion/Did you ever miss me/Ever long to kiss me
Maybe that's just your way/Of dealing with the pain/Forgetting everything between our rise and fall/Like we never loved at all

Deciding enough was enough, she followed him the next day. She made sure to stay far enough behind, and when the chance arose, she’d confront him. He walked through the park and into the cemetery. He stopped at an angel and kneeled to the ground. Kandace’s breath caught in her throat when she looked at the name inscribed on the stone.

“Kandace, it's me, Josh. I miss you so much. You and Jane both. She was just as much my best friend as she was your’s. It wasn’t time for you to go. I love you so much, and I miss you every day. I wish you could come back to me. Please come back. I hope that you are happy and safe where ever you are. I will never love another person the way I love you. I will always love you, goodbye for now.” he said wiping his eyes and standing

He placed a single rose on the cold marble and walked back to his car. He hadn’t left her, she had left him. Suddenly, she wasn’t on earth anymore. She assumed this was heaven and knew they’d be together again someday.
