JUSTIN
I was beginning to think that Mel wasn't going to show up when I spotted her at the bar, laughing it up with some guy. She looked absolutely gorgeous, even better than when I had first seen her. I smiled and made my way over to her, weaving in and out of the dancing crowd.
"Hey Mel," I said, tapping her lightly on the shoulder.
She turned around. "Justin… hey…"
"Hey…" I said awkwardly. "I'm glad you could make it. I didn't think that you were going to come."
"Oh, yeah… well, I never miss a good party."
"Oh really?" I asked. "You seemed kind of… shy in your e-mails."
"Listen, about that… I think we should stop e-mailing each other. I mean… it's probably not going to work out. Whatever sort of thing we have. Thanks for inviting me to the party." Mel took her drink and walked away from me.
What was that all about?
"I'll take a coke," I heard a sort of familiar voice interrupt my thoughts. I turned to my side and saw that annoying girl from Disneyworld.
"Oh no," I said under my breath.
She turned my way.
"Oh, Justin! Hey! I've been looking for you!"
Great. "Oh, um, how did you get inside?"
"I was on the guest list, silly!"
I don't know how he did it, but Lance was good, really good. Obviously he had tracked down loser-girl so she could annoy me at the party. It's shaping up to be a great night, I thought sarcastically.
"I'm really glad I am meeting you again. I'm really sorry about dropping those hot dogs on your shoes. I'm hoping I won't do that this time." She laughed.
I plastered a smile onto my face. "Yeah, me too. You know, you ruined my shoes." I couldn't help saying.
"Gee, I'm sorry about that."
"Anyway, I gotta go."
I turned and tried to walk away before she could say anything else. Mel had dissed me, but that didn't mean I wanted to spend the rest of the night with Screech.
