"…….last night at Club Blue downtown, gun shots erupted in a very
large crowd at newly opened club. Inside sources say that the popular
band N*Sync were part of the crowd and barely escaped through the
mass of dancers. The two men who pulled out guns have been
arrested…." Kristina turned her television off and sighed. She had
heard just about enough as she wanted to hear from the CBC
broadcaster. (for you guys that don't know CBC is a Canadian station
kind of like NBC that you can get here too) Last night had to be a
nightmare right? There she was dancing it up with her friends that
she hadn't seen in awhile, having a great time, finally seeing Justin
again only for all of that to happen. It had to be fate that brought
them back together right? So why was it that fate tore them apart? Oh
who was she kidding, she was watching way too many soap operas. That
stuff didn't happen in real life. She was lucky someone of Justin's
caliber even looked at her. She'd never see him again that was for
sure. She couldn't compete with fake boobs and blonde hair. She was
just some middle class black girl from a city people tried to avoid
like the plague. She wasn't some dancer, singer or actor. She was
just some girl that worked at a pizza place. Trying to think no more
of everything that happened, Kristina grabbed her uniform and changed
out of her sweats.
"Grandma I'm leaving out!"
"Alright, be careful."
"Alright." Kristina hopped into her black neon and headed downtown to
her job. She didn't like the fact that she had to drive almost a half
an hour just to get to work but it was the only thing she could
find. "Big ass city, I'm moving to the country one of these days" she
grumbled to herself.
"Well you look you've been having a great day."
"Oh yeah its just been peachy." Kristina walked in to the pizza place
and punched in. Thank goodness today her friend Emma was working or
she'd be done for. Emma knew all of her attitudes and knew when to
back away. Now was the time. Fiddling around with the radio dial, she
turned to 93.1 the local pop station and listened to the last bit of
The Remedy by Jason Mraz.
"Hey so did you guys here about the whole shooting across the boarder
last night? Heard N*Sync was there and just barely got away from the
gunshots. Well Thank God for that right, here they are on DRQ

You might've been hurt, babe
That ain't no lie
You've seen them all come and go, oh..
I remember you told me
That it made you believe in
No man, no cry
Maybe that's why…"

"Since when you been listening to N*Sync? I thought you hated them."
Kristina snapped out of her thoughts.
"Uh yeah, right. Can you turn on the Robbie Williams cd?"
"Yeah sure." Emma walked over to the radio and turned on Kristina's
cd. Though Robbie wasn't too popular in America he was her favorite
singer. But right now listening to him so didn't help. It took her
thoughts right back to Justin.

Come and hold my hand
I wanna contact the living
Not sure I understand
This role I've been given
I sit and talk to God
And he just laughs at my plans
My head speaks a language
I don't understand

I just wanna feel
Real love feel the home that I live in
Cos I got too much life
Running trough my veins
Going to waste

Kristina just slammed her head against the counter that sat before
her. Today was definitely going to be a long day.

"Thanks for meeting with me." J.C. sat across from the man he called
on. If anyone could find Kristina it was this guy or at least he was
told it was this guy. He sort of reminded him of Robert Stack, you
know the Unsolved Mysteries guy? He had like this big trench coat
that was just unnecessary for the Californian heat and more wrinkles
than one a crumbled dress shirt.
"Very welcome, so give me the goods. Who did you need me to find?"
"The thing is I don't know much about her, neither really does
Justin."
"Well tell me what you know."
"Um she's short, 5'3 I think. She's pretty small from what I can tell
but she not sickly thin or anything. Her hair's is brown but it's a
little red too and she's light."
"What about a name?"
"All I have is that her name is Kristina. From what Justin told me
she's born in January and that she's 20 so she's `84. I don't really
know what day though just that its before the 31rst and that she's
born and raised in Detroit, she hasn't been much anywhere else." The
older man finished writing down the rest of the information J.C. gave
him. "You've got to find her man, Justin is like bugging out of his
brains about this one chick. Why I do not know."
"I'll see what I can do. It's going to be hard, but I'll try."
"Thanks." J.C. gave the older man a pat on the back. One could only
hope that he could find her. Hours later the man traveled up to
Michigan and began his search. He wasn't working with much but he'd
try to do what he could.
*********************
A week later……….
J.C. had just left Justin's and he was doing pretty bad. He tried to
fake it by giving him these unconvincing smiles but it didn't work on
him. He knew deep down his boy was hurting for this girl. He had to
find her, he just had to. As J.C. was driving down the busy
Californian highway his cell began to ring.
"Yeah?"
"Its me Boccheri."
"Did you find her?"
"I'm sorry Mr. Chasez but no such luck. Its almost as if this girl
doesn't exist."
"Are you sure, did you look good?"
"I did everything, nothing." J.C. put his head down. That was it. He
tried, he tried for his best bud and nothing. How was it that she was
nowhere to be found? Was she playing Justin? Sadness became anger,
who was this girl really? Thoughts ran through J.C.'s mind while
Kristina was helping push pizza's into the oven.
"I hate being short!!!" she complained for the umpteenth time.
"I think you got someone at the counter."
"Alright." Kristina jumped out of the chair and headed for the front.
"Hi welcome to Pizza Papalis, may I take your order." The man looked
at her as if he was looking at something that had 3 heads, purple
eyes and antlers. "Sir?" The man looked down at her name tag:
Kristina. She fit the description perfectly.
"Are you Kristina, born sometime in January 1984?"
"Who wants to know?"
"Joshua Chasez."
"Who?" Being really unfamiliar with the band left her clueless on
names.
"I believe he goes by the name J.C. instead."
"Sorry never heard of him."
"He's in the band Nsync?" Kristina stopped in her tracks and looked
at the man.
"January 18th, 1984."
"I need to speak with you."
"Order a lemonade." The man was confused but went along and did as
she asked.
"I'll take a lemonade."
"Great." Kristina fixed the lemonade and passed it to the
man. "Shanna, I'm taking my break!"
"Alright." Kristina came from around the counter and sat across from
the man who looked like he could be some old timey detective.
"So he sent you here?"
"He sent me here because of his friend Justin. He's a wreck and needs
you to get in contact with you immediately."
"Well just give me his cell, I'll call him."
"Better than that, Mr. Chasez has provided tickets for you to leave
to Los Angeles next week if possible."
"Look I appreciate all this but I don't know you from Adam and the
best thing I've leaned from living in this city is not to take
anything at face value. How do I know that you're not some psycho
killer?"
"Ma'am with all due respect I get paid a lot more for finding people
not kidnapping. I've tried to look you up and found nothing. Why is
that? I was ready to leave."
"I was born at a hospital that closed years ago. All their records
are just scattered, I can't even get my vaccination records."
"Would you be offended if I did a background search on you?"
"Whatever, do what you have to do." In mere minutes the man did his
background check which came clean. Why was it that he couldn't find
anything? He continuously spelled her name wrong. Now with the clean
slate he was ready to get her out to California as soon as possible.
"Do you think you'll be able to leave here by next week?"
"I thought you'd never ask." Kristina took two of fingers and dipped
it into the lemonade before dropping the tart drink in her eyes. "Be
right back." Kristina got up from the table and walked to the
back. "Shanna, I'm going to have to call next week off."
"Why what's wrong?"
"Its my great grandma Janine, she--she--she died. I have to fly out
to California for her funeral."
"Oh dear I'm sorry to hear that, sure you can have next week off. As
a matter of fact go home be with your family."
"Thanks." Kristina grabbed her hand bag and left out with the PI.
"Great acting."
"Thanks, tell J.C. I'm on my way."
"Will do ma'am." Kristina handed her number to him and with glee
danced to her car. "Hello Krystal, guess who's going to California?!"
