"I feel like a complete idiota!!"
"Because you are. Girl I wouldn't have left that rich white boy after
he basically begged you to stay."
"But Clarke!!"
"Don't Clarke me, after all the bullshit we had to go through with
these jackasses here you get someone that's worth it all and you just
leave? Get out of here."
"What was I going to do? That was just one good week! We still barely
know each other no matter how much we really like each other."
"You mean love."
"Come again?"
"Its written all over your face, you are in love with that boy. Don't
be acting brand new."
"Well its too late to right the wrongs. Here I am drowning my sorrows
with some Lil' Caesars and some green apple sodas."
"How is it that you work at a pizza place yet you still eat pizza all
the time from somewhere else?"
"Girl I love Pizza Papalis, but there is no way I'm pay $18 for a
small pizza."
"But you have to admit that those shrimp pizza's are good." Krystal
noticed that Kristina wasn't paying attention to what she was
saying. "Hello earth to Anderson?"
"Oh---my----word."
"What?" Kristina pointed to the television.
"….No one knows who the mystery woman is but inside sources say that
the couple recently met and instantly in love. The young woman was
seen with pop star Timberlake at the LAX today…"
"I am so screwed." Almost immediately Kristina's phone began to
ring. "Hello?"
"KRISTINA OHMYGOSH!!!" Jasmine screamed. Just then her phone buzzed
over.
"Um, hold on a sec." Kristina clicked over.
"KRISTINA OHMY--" Darnise was on the other end. Sometime between then
Jasmine hung up and her phone buzzed again.
"Hello?" she said flatly.
"Kristina?" Kristina sat straight up. It was her boss Shanna.
"Shanna?"
"Kristina……you lied to me." Kristina put her head in her hands.
Shanna blew out some air. "But if you had to lie about that than I
don't blame you."
"You aren't going to fire me? I mean I really need this job, spring
semester is coming up and I need to take this French class and this
math class so bad and without a job--"
"Kristina I'm not going to fire you. Get me an autograph and it'll be
under the rug."
"I'll see what I can do." Kristina hung up the phone and plopped back
onto Krystal's bed. "This is going to be interesting."
*****************
Early that next day Kristina got up early to go to church. Spending
the night at Krystal's made it close for her to get there since it
was in southwest and she lived all the way on the northwest side of
town. She took her usual spot, alone in the middle of the aisle. It
was a pretty average sized Lutheran church filled with a lot of older
people, mainly polish immigrants and their families. She was one of a
few black people that went to the church but no one ever made her
feel out of place. They all had mainly saw her grow up into the young
woman she was today because she attended the Lutheran school next
door before it closed. The church always comforted her. Maybe today
God would give her some help with the situation she was in.
"About damn time!!" Justin screamed looking up at the huge church
that stood before him. It took forever to find her church. He had
went on his quest to look for Kristina's church. He was like a
chicken with its head cut off looking around for that church. Finally
he found it on this tiny street that no one would've ever looked for.
He was for sure that the service was almost up but he'd try at least.
Walking into the church, he was so nervous. Not so much if someone
would see him, more so of what would Kristina think? Would she think
he was pushy? It was pretty easy to find her. Everyone there was
pretty old. She sat alone in the middle, but from the looks he was
getting from the doormen he decided to just sit down in the back.
"…please greet your brothers and sisters in Christ." Justin had no
clue what was going on. The crowd got up and began to say hello to
one another. A few people came up to him, but it seemed as if they
didn't know who he was. They were so kind saying hello and giving him
pats on the back all the while he kept his eyes on Kristina.
"Nice to meet you son."
"Nice to meet you too sir." There she was, just a few feet away.
Sticking his hand out he wanted for her to turn to him. Kristina's
eyes grew wide. Forget handshake she jumped into his arms and held on
tight.
"Justin, what are you doing here?"
"To see you."
"Are you kidding me?"
"No."
"Oh my goodness. Um, let me go get my stuff." Kristina grabbed her
bible and purse and came back to him. Nobody couldn't tell her that
God didn't work wonders. For once Justin got a glimpse of Kristina's
life. She was crazy about her church and the school next to it that
was once open. He was used to going to his big Baptist church with
the full band, singing and dancing. This was a bit different, it was
just an old huge organ to flowed through the whole church and
operaretic singing. Service ended soon afterwards and the two headed
out hand and hand. "So where are you staying?"
"The GM Westin."
"Ah ok the Ren Cen, cool. I still can't believe you're here."
"Neither can I. As soon as your plane went up I went and got a
ticket."
"Aw!"
"But I can only stay for one day." Kristina began to frown. She'd
only have him for one day? "No, don't be sad."
"I'm not, I'm happy. Really I am."
"Good so am I. I want you to stay with me tonight."
"Of course" she smiled. "But I have to stop by my place before I come
down there for some changing clothes."
"I'll give you something to wear."
"No I mean out of this. Its too hot to keep this on."
"Ok, well I'll come with you." AHHHHH!!! NOOO!! Come with her? Then
he'd meet her family!!
"Uh…"
"I want to meet your fam."
"Fam, ah ha ha."
"Scared to introduce me or something?"
"No not at all."
"Then come on babe, let's go."

************************
"Who is it?"
"Its me." Kristina's mother opened the door and basically stood in a
state of shock. Did Justin Timberlake just walk into their apartment?
Nah, couldn't be could it? "Where's grandma?"
"She's in the back. So are you going to introduce me to your friend?"
"Um, this is Justin, Justin, this is my mother but we just call her
Peggy."
"Nice to meet you Peggy."
"Nice to meet you too." Kristina's grandma came walking into the
room. Who was the guy sitting on the couch?
"Hello" she said oddly.
"Hello ma'am."
"This is my grandma, grandma this is Justin."
"Hi how are ya Justin?"
"I'm good and yourself?"
"Just fine, trying to deal with this heat."
"Yeah it is pretty hot here for Michigan." Kristina slid out of the
room to hurry and get some changing clothes and night clothes. Things
seemed to be going well with Justin and her grandmother.
"Why didn't you tell me you were going with Justin Timberlake?" her
mother asked.
"Does it matter?"
"YES!! Where'd ya'll meet?"
"At a hotel."
"Kriiissstttiiinnnaaa, no!"
"Mother!" She only called her mother when she wanted to piss her
off. "Peggy its not like that ok? I'm going to go spend the night
with him is that ok?"
"Yeah I guess."
"Good see you tomorrow." Kristina walked back into the room. Justin
and her grandmother were talking about Tennessee.
"Yeah I know where Columbia is, used to drive past there a few times."
"Let me guess, the Tennessee connection?"
"Yup."
"He knows where it is Kristina."
"That's great grandma." A knock on the door startled everyone. "Who
is it?"
"Me fartface." Kristina opened the door to her sister Kim.
"Hey hey…..hey?" Kim looked over to Justin sitting on the couch.
"Hi."
"Kim Justin, Justin Kim."
"Hey."
"Now we have to go."
"Ya'll just got here." This was what she was dreading. Kristina
didn't want her mother to say something off the wall to have Justin
running for the hills. She walked back over to the couch with a frown
on her face. They all began to talk, how Justin met Kristina and her
week in California. All that mumbo jumbo. They genuinely seemed like
they enjoyed Justin and vice versa. There was an instant Tennessee
thing with her grandma so they got along easily. He got along with
her sister and her mother too, but Peggy was more star struck than
anything. After almost 2 hours they left and headed back downtown.
"Thank goodness that's over."
"Why? I like your family."
"That's just the first meeting."
"Ah come on, give them some credit. They were pretty sweet."
"I suppose. I think they really liked you too."
"How could you not?" he laughed.
"Yeah yeah."
"So you don't live with your dad?"
"No, he and my mother separated when I was 1 years old."
"What happened if I'm not being too personal?"
"He cheated on my mother constantly. She just couldn't take it
anymore."
"I'm sorry to hear that."
"I mean its like he just kept on and kept on. She kept taking him
back she was like she couldn't do anymore when she found out that he
had a son with someone he cheated on." Justin could see the hurt in
her eyes as she talked about the way her father treated her mother.
He didn't want to say anything but in his eyes, he was a bastard.
Anyone who could upset Kristina like that wasn't worth his time.
"That's horrible but maybe its good it happened because it played a
role in how you are now."
"That's true. I mean from that I could never cheat on someone I
loved. My father cheated on my mother and one of my old boyfriends
cheated on me. I could never hurt someone like that. If I was cheated
on again I just don't know what I could do. It'd kill me."
"Well you don't have to worry about me, I'd never cheat on you. I
don't have it in my heart to do it. I'll never hurt you."
"Justin, please don't say that. We don't know what the future holds."
"I do and I know that I'll never ever cheat or hurt you. I promise."
"You promise?"
"Promise." They began to kiss each other. Justin pulled away and
looked into her chocolate eyes. "Would you be mad if I told you so
soon that I love you?"
"No, because I love you too." Nothing could take Justin off his high
right now. He was riding on cloud 9. Not only was he here with
Kristina, but he met her family which was cool and to top it off she
loved him. Could life get any better?
