Chapter 8
The next morning was full of excitement because the talent show was only a few days away and everyone had to make the final touches for their performances. Ebony knew that since she was performing a piece that needed a pianist, she needed to find someone that was skilled enough to play for her. That led her to Josh because she only knew two people who could play the piano and that was Josh and Justin and since the song was about Justin, she couldn’t have him play it. She walked up to Josh and said, "JC I need a favor."
"Well it must be big because that’s the only time you call me JC. So what is it?" he asked.
"Okay, I’m going to be singing a song and I need a pianist and I was wondering if you would do it." She asked.
"Okay. Do you have the music with you?" he asked.
"Yeah, here. Please practice by yourself because I don’t want anyone to know how it sounds before the show." Ebony said.
"Sure." He said as Lance walked up to him.
"So what are you doing for the talent show Ebony?" Lance asked.
"You’re going to have to wait and find out." She replied.
"You know that you and Justin are just alike. I asked him the same question and he gave me the same exact answer."
"Whatever." I need to go because I have to talk to Ms. Johnson about my grade. I want to make sure that she re-scored my test. I’ll see you later. Josh ask Kim if she’d going to the mall with me this afternoon." Ebony said.
After eight hours of school and another two hours at the mall, Ebony found the perfect outfit for the talent show. It had went around school the JIVE and Arista Record representatives would be at the show looking for new talent so she wanted to look her best. She new that Josh was performing a song he wrote called, ‘This I Promise You’ and I knew it was going to be good because Josh had a voice that made you want to listen to him. Time was going quickly and she knew that the show would be here she knew it.

It was the night that everyone had been waiting for. The talent show was here and everyone was running around behind the curtains trying to get themselves situated. A couple of acts had performed already and some were better than others. Ebony knew her time was coming near and she wanted to make sure than she looked presentable and that her voice was prepared for the song she was about to sing. Right after she finished taking her deeps breaths, the stage manager came up to her and said, Ebony get ready. You are about to go on stage.
The principal went on stage and said, "Next is Ebony Williams to sing a song she wrote called ‘My All’ and she has Joshua Chasez playing the piano. So without further adieu please give applause to Ebony Williams."
With that said, Ebony walked on the stage. She walked slowly as to not trip over the hem of her dress. The audience was quiet so you could hear her heels clattering as she made her way to the microphone. She had on an elegant strapless black dress that accentuated all her curves. She wore a pair of diamond studs, a diamond butterfly tennis bracelet that Britney gave her for her birthday, and a diamond necklace her father bought her for Christmas. She had diamond pins decorating the tight bun in her hair and she had a few strands of hair framing her face. She wasn’t one to wear makeup so all she had on was some lip-gloss. Josh started to play the intro of the song. When he got to the part where she was supposed to start singing, she opened her mouth and the most beautifully crafted lyrics came out of her mouth:

When she finished, the audience stood and applauded for her. She said thank you into the microphone and walked off the stage. When she was behind the curtains, all her friends walked up to her and hugged her. They told her how beautiful the song was and they all wanted to know who it was about but she wasn’t about to disclose that information. She said to all of the complements and went to sit in the audience to watch the rest of the show. When she finally sat down, she noticed that the principal had already finished the introduction for the next performer and noticed that a guy wearing a black suit was seating at the piano. It didn’t take her awhile to figure out that the guy was Justin. She listened carefully to the sensual melody that he was playing. Then his mouth opened and his angelic voice came out as he started to sing the erotic lyrics.

When he was done everyone applauded for him and he got up and walked off the stage with a smile at the audience. When he walked away a lot of people were talking, saying that he was the one to get. I mean, he has sex appeal, he seems like the smooth type, and he can sing. He was the one that everyone wanted. I mean so far he was the only male that went on that could really sing but Josh hadn’t gone on yet. He was supposed to go on before me but he needed the school band for his number and one of the people was late so he had to go later than what was planned. Since the guy that was missing from the band finally made it, they let Josh go next. The principal did the introductions and Josh walked on stage. He sat behind the piano and he started to play. The band soon joined in and he started singing the song:

When he finished, he too got a standing ovation. That was the perfect love song and Ebony assumed he wrote it for Kim. After he finished he left the stage and he and Justin came out in the audience and sat with her while they watched the rest of the contestants. After about 30 minutes the principal came out and said, "This was a great talent show and everyone is a winner in my heart but we can only have three winners so without further adieu here are the winners. In third place is Kelly Stevenson, in second place is Joshua Chasez, and in first place…well this is the first time this has happened. We have a tie for first place so the winners are…Ebony Williams and Justin Timberlake."
Everyone went on stage and got their prizes and walked to talk to their families. While Ebony was conversing with her mother, a lady in a black suit walked up to her. "Hello my name is Judy Sanchez and I am a representative for JIVE records and I was wondering if you ever thought of being a professional vocalist." She replied.
"I can’t say that I have but I have always thought about being a song writer." Ebony said.
"You wrote the song you sing right?" Ms. Sanchez asked.
"Yes, I did. I write a lot of songs and Britney Spears also asked me to write a song for her not too long ago." Ebony replied.
"Britney Spears asked you to write a song for her?" Ms. Sanchez asked surprised.
"Yes, she was down here a couple of weeks ago visiting and she asked me to write her a song or two." Ebony said.
"Well, here’s my card. Give me a call sometime next week and I’ll get you an appointment with the head of JIVE. I’ll need you to bring some of your material and I’ll see if he would sign you as an official JIVE song writer." Ms. Sanchez said.
"Thank you and I will do that." Ebony said. While Ebony was conversing with Judy Justin was talking to another representative form JIVE and he was offered a record contract.
After everything was negotiated Justin walked over to Ebony and said, "Guess what?"
"What?"
"JIVE wants me to be their new artist." Justin said happily.
"Well JIVE wanted me to be a singer also but I talked Ms. Sanchez into seeing if I could be a song writer instead and she said she would see what she could do." Ebony said.
"Well this is a cause for a celebration. Why don’t we go out to dinner?" Justin asked.
"Why don’t I go home and change and meet you at the place." Ebony said.
"There’s no need to change because we’re going to a French restaurant so just go like you are." Justin said.
"Okay, it’s a date. I’ll meet you out side in fifteen okay?" Ebony said.
"Fifteen minutes it is." Justin said as he walked away.
Did I just agree to go out on a date with Justin? I think I did. I’m about to go on a date with my best friend.
