Chapter Thirty Nine

“Carrie, I really think I should be going,” Julie said, biting her lip. Since she’d arrived, she’d been followed around the party by one boy in particular, and she was really beginning to grow uncomfortable. She didn’t like the way he leered at her.

“You can’t!” Carrie said, almost hysterically. “I’ve got to get these people cleared out of here and when I do, I need your help,” she said. “They’ve nearly trashed the place!”

“I can’t stay here. My dad is going to flip out as it is,” Julie said, groaning. She glanced over her shoulder and saw the one boy standing there, sipping on a drink that she assumed was some alcoholic beverage. “Who is that kid over there?” She asked, nodding with her head in his direction.

“I don’t know! I don’t know ninety percent of people here!” She said, tears welling up in her eyes. “How did things get so out of hand?”

“I don’t know, but you’ve got to do something. This is getting out of control,” Julie said. Truthfully, even though she knew shed get her butt busted, she wished her father would drive by, see all the cars, and make her come home. But at midnight, she knew it was highly unlikely.

“I’m going to go talk to Tracy. I’ve got to do something to get these people out of here,” she said. “You stay here, I’ll be right back,” Carrie said, reaching up to brush the tears away and then walked off to find her cousin.

“Hi.” The voice startled Julie. She turned around, her eyes wide as she recognized her admirer.

“Hi,” she said, her voice shaking slightly. “Do I know you?” She asked, letting out a soft little laugh. She hoped he didn’t hear how afraid she sounded.

“No. I wanted to tell you that you’re very pretty. And I like your hair,” he said, reaching out to finger the red wig she wore.

“Oh that…” she forced another laugh. “It’s not my hair,” she said, yanking the wig from her head.

“I like that even more,” he said, tugging on a lock of her brown hair. The next thing she knew, he’d clamped his hand roughly around her wrist, tight enough to cause her physical pain. Her heart was pounding in her chest.

“You know what? I’ve got to go… I was supposed to be home an hour ago and…” she felt her feet being uprooted from their spot on the floor. She tugged on her arm to free herself, but it was no use. What was she going to do? There were too many people. Even if she screamed, no one would be able to make it out due to the noise. “No, I’ve really got to go,” she said, tugging harder.

“I’m sorry, but I’m afraid you’re not going anywhere.” His voice was mechanical, almost like a robot’s. His eyes were dull as he peered into hers, not willing to let her go.

Not knowing what to do, she tried hitting his hand with her free arm, but she quickly realized it was a mistake. In one swift movement, he’d lifted her from her feet and dragged her up the stairs, a scream leaving her mouth. It fell on deaf ears, as she’d predicted.

He threw her to the bed roughly, slamming the door behind him. From her place on the bed, she could hear the sound of a lock clicking in place. What was she going to do? How was she to escape? He was bigger than her, outweighing her by at least 100 pounds. Would Carrie realize she was missing?

He closed the gap between himself and the bed. He reached down and started tugging on her skirt, trying to get it down. The tears were falling down her cheeks freely.

“Please don’t do this!” She begged. She felt the fabric of her shirt being ripped away from her body, and she had no idea what to do to escape.

The phone in the Chasez house rang and JC groaned loudly as he rolled over. He’d just gotten his daughter to bed. Who the hell called at 1:00 in the morning anyway?

“Hello?” He grumbled angrily into the receiver. He reached out to turn the light on and rubbed his eyes.

“Mr. Chasez?”

“Yeah… who the hell is this?” He asked gruffly.

“This is doctor Andrews. I’m calling in regards to your daughter.”

His heart stopped as his eyes popped open. He was all ears now. “My daughter?”

“Yes sir, your daughter, Julie? We need you or your wife to come down to the hospital immediately.”

“Is she okay?” He asked, his heart now pounding against his chest. He was already out of the bed, pulling his pants on over his shorts.

“I’d rather not discuss this over the phone, mister Chasez. Let the nurse at the desk know that you’re here when you arrive,” the doctor said, before hanging up the phone.

“What’s the matter?” Jen asked, rolling over sleepily.

“Julie’s in the hospital. They wouldn’t tell me anything. I’ve got to go down there,” he said, tears filling his eyes.

“IS she okay?”

“Were you not listening to anything I just said?” He snapped. “I just said they didn’t tell me anything.”

Knowing that her husband was tremendously worried, she didn’t respond. She stood up and began dressing. “Get Abbi up, I’ll go get Jack.”

“Where do you think you’re going?”

“Do you think I’m letting you traipse down to the hospital alone? You’re crazy. I’m going with you.”

“You don’t have to. You aren’t her mother.”

The words were like a slap in the face. “Maybe not, but I’m the closest thing she’s got,” she responded coldly, before walking out of the room and down the hall to get her son wrapped up warmly.
